GTR Tracker What One?

Hi guys I haven't been on here for a while. I used to own a GTR 33 many moons ago.

I have just sold my EVO X RS and will be buying a GTR 35.

I have seen one at Romans International but it has no tracker fitted.

Can anyone tell me what tracker is fitted by Nissan to the GTR?

My insurance has specified a CAT5 tracking device and I would like to fit the same one as Nissan.

Many Thanks

John

Cheers for the info guys.

Is it true that if another tracker is fitted rather than Cobra Trak 5 there are warranty issues?

It was a shame to see the X RS go but onward and upwards.

Ken hows it hanging mate?

John

My understanding is that any tracker other than the Nissan device will void the warranty on the electrical loom - or at least loom part that involves the tracker.

I got this one.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We currently have the Tracker Horizon on special offer and the costs are listed below.

Tracker Horizon - supplied and installed £235.00 inc VAT.
Annual subscription is £132.00 inc VAT (paid directly to Tracker)

We have our own directly employed engineers who provide a nationwide onsite installation service and this is included in the above costs.

If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards

Phil

There are a few threads on this already and my HPC has not mentioned any warranty issues to me. After all, they are insurance approved installers. That's a good deal for a Horizon. If you go for it tell Phil that Steve with the GT-R in Newcastle put you onto him.

Cheers and good luck.

Just looking at Tracker options and found this website

Car GPS Tracker Jammer, Motorcycle GPS Signal Blocker | TAYX LTD and

it seems to make the trackers worthless...or is there one out there than cant be blocked ?

John,
Have you tried changing insurance companies? Were you with Keith Michaels before? Modifications forced me down the route of specialist companies, but as my GTR will be standard (for now), companies like admiral are quoting £550 pa with no tracker. Keith Micheals while excellent with my Evo were poor with the GTR. Might be worth shopping around if you haven't done already. Of course you might want a tracker anyway in which case ignore me!

Do we know if the GTR satnav uses the same systems to get GPS signal ?

Eh??

All GPS trackers use a simple aerial to "see" the GPS satellites overhead.

There is no such thing as "unblockable gyroscopes or speedpulse systems".

Some satnavs use the speed sensor wire to help compute the vehicle's actual movements, but has nothing to do with GPS, and trackers do not use this as few cars have a speed sensor wire (and those that do use varying methods of relaying that signal - i.e. Merc uses one type, BMW another, Jag another etc etc etc)

ALL GPS SIGNALS CAN BE BLOCKED.

Why? Because...

1. If you can transmit a strong enough signal inside a car on the same wavelength as the GPS signal, then the tracker wont get the proper GPS signal and thsu it'll have no idea where it is.

2. If you cover the GPS receiver aerial with simple tinfoil, the aerial cant see the satellites and their signals, and again, it wont know where it is.

If you want a greater peace of mind, the choose a system which doesnt just rely upon GPS.

Tracker Horizon uses VHF as well as GPS to help location.

But at the end of the day no system is foolproof. Never rely upon these gadgets to secure your vehicle.

Me, I've got Tracker Horizon and the Autowatch 68hi carjack immobiliser.

Chances are my car will have come to a stop long before I need to call Tracker.

Paul I must admit I didn't try any other insurance companies.

Keith Michaels have always been good to me and when they quoted less than the EVO I was happy. They did specify the tracker though.

I decided to fit the Cobra Trak5 in the end.
