Where's the best place to sell a UK R35?

Well it looks like she's going to have to go.......

Since ordering my Premium edition Ultimate Silver GT-R it seems circumstances have transpired against me.

Not long after ordering my Wife got pregnant - It turns out though that the GT-R is a perfect family car and fits the buggy in the boot fantastically well - and better than the S4 avant I looked at today - so this is not the problem

The problem is that a purchase like this was always a push my finances but two weeks ago my Wife, who'd just gone back to work a few days a week, was told that she was being made redundant from immediate effect due to the company she works for going into liquidation - oh and you won't get the redundancy money or last months wage packet with that large commission cheque in it - This has left a very large gap in our finances and the GT-R is the obvious place to cut back.

So where is the best placed to sell my 29th April delivered, 2000 mile car and what kind of price should I be putting it up for - bearing in mind I'm not absolutely desperate to sell in the first few days, happy for it to take a 1-2 month as I can drive it a bit longer

I'm guessing to get the best price I need to sell privately but has anybody had experince of selling a car like this privately - just how dangerous is it?

Just typing this message has made me feel quite sick

I sold a porker 3 months after i got it, you just need to run it on the club boards and the usual places and be sensible with meeting anyone and insure they have insurance, etc for test drives, i was lucky i got someone who wanted the same color and spec and did not want to wait a year for theres, all in all i lost very little in the grand scheme or things.

Maybe your HPC will put it up for sale for you for some commision?

Good luck and i'm feeling for ya

I feel very sorry for you.

Another one to try is Lawton Brook Ltd. They buy/sell prestige cars and I've seen a couple of GT-R's go through their books. I know they're buying new stock at the moment.

Here's hoping the joy of the new arrival makes up for it in some way.

would let anybody have it s.o.r. at the moment

horror stories of a presteige dealer (safron) who sold the sor cars on then didnt pay owners before going pop....

would advertise on pistonheads / autotrader and call dealers (perhaps worth 50k in trade....)

Hi Pugwash,

Firstly really sorry to hear of your situation that is just poor mate.

I hope everything works out for you and the good lady.

Best advice i can give is the following having just sold a very special car (Not R35)

Forget the stealers they will want a nice fat premium on top.

Pistonheads and Ebay are your best bets forget Auto Trader and Top Marques.

When selling it price it to sell, in other words make sure you mention in your advert that it is priced accordingly and is not being sold for profit unlike the majority of the other R35's which are being flipped by greedy so called "lovers of the car" trying to get post price increases numbers for pre price increase cars.

Take a look at Pistonheads and you will see exactly what i mean!

On the ebay side i had 1400 page hits in 20 Hours! and 27 phone calls the first weekend (Car was posted on the Friday and sold by the Saturday night!)

Pay the extra 78 quid i think it was to be a featured listing under Car Sales so anytime someone types in Nissan or R35 or GTR regardless of the category your car appears.

Put a make me an offer function in but be prepared to face loads of stupid offers from so called private buyers (Read traders).

I would have bitten your hand off i have funds waiting but am after a Storm White car all the best with your sale and in the future mate.

Regards

ScottyB

Scotty - I don't agree,
I've sold all my cars through Autotrader online. I never bother with the paper - it's coverage is too tiny, but online it's national. I had calls from all over the Country and sold to a guy who travelled over 200 miles. And it costs only £40 for 6 weeks.

For anything unusual or out of the ordinary it's by far the best route. I ran the same add on Pistonheads and got a handful of dreamer wannabees who wanted to pretend they were serious buyers.

Thanks for all the ideas and good wishes.

I'm going to try and sort out the advertising of the car this weekend (if I can bring myself to do it) and sort out how I deal with the outstanding finance.

Feel sick again

Interesting, i suppose different cars different uptake on Autotrader.

Out of my 27 calls:

24 Ebay
2 Pistonheads
1 from the forums

Nada from Autotrader online????

Car was the very first Subaru RB320 every built BJ56 OJS the Prodrive Development car.

For Sale - Prodrive Development RB320 - BJ56 OJS - Mitsubishi Lancer Register Forum

Just goes to show it is worth while keeping a breast of what is working, this was only 3/4 weeks ago????

Autotrader online may well be your best route and for 40 quid even if it isn't it is not a big outlay for Country wide exposure......

The classic i know of is as follows:

Quick sale able to collect following day or very short notice and want to pay with Bankers Draft - Be aware there are dodgey Bankers drafts doing the rounds, i know of one poor sod who even took the extra precautions of having his bank check the authenticity of the draft. They confirmed they were happy with it and he banked it/released the car.

Turns out the draft was a batch stolen so when the serial numbers were checked they showed as genuine drafts! Scarey. Draft bounced car was gone, police now dealing with it as a fraud case.

Best advice is DO NOT RELEASE the car until CLEARED funds are in your account - best thing to do is ask for direct bank transfer!

Cool OutsideUK

Usually folks outside Uk wanting to export.....need your account number etc........only deal face to face thats the key and money in the account before you let go. It's NOT a hassle for a genuine buyer.......Autotrader gives advice and all is good but seller beware!!!!!!!!
