mate PPG is a bad word in skyline circles, the yanks might find out the hard way. Box issue could be any number of things.

there are lots of fixes for this. please call dodson motorsports in NZ and south side performance in usa. they both create fixes for the GTR trans and have fixed many of them sofar. most of the problems are solinoids which you can probably clean out, some have flushed the fluids some have taken appart the trans and cleaned it out (you have to put it back a certain way). some problems are seals that break.

if its a first gear issue then the only choice right now is PPG first gear replacement, of which has sofar worked, but i dunno to what extent since no one has pushed them yet, but they have fixed alot of peoples issues sofar. most of the first gear issues are due to excessive launch control on all gt-r's that dont have the upgraded launch control. SpeedForSale.com - Toyota Supra Turbo, 2009-2010 Nissan GT-R, and Mazda RX7 service, cars, and parts for sale. sells this ppg gearset. its pretty cheap too, however not easy to install and requires someone who has docmented the trans well and knows the in's and outs and has the special tooling.

in any case you guys should run transmission coolers if you dont want any troubles. the main cause of these problems is heat and launch control in general (not that there isnt other causes). most of you with serise 2 cars have launch control version2 which will have less problems with launching.

also fluid changes should be changed out often if using the stock fluid. there is a temp change guide that tells you when its been in an unsafe temp zone and would require a fluid change within a certain milage or something (i forget).

the only aftermarket fluid i know as of right now is willall fluid. its much better in every respect and will protect the gears better and keep things a few degree's cooler. things will be smoother and less noise.

for those of you that have broken the stock clutchs there are replacements from south side performance and they have upgrade clutch packs for 700hp for those upgrading to something like gt570 kits or aftermarket turbo's. these are easy to install and just need a consult3 to calibrate.

ssp also have solid transmission mounts for those looking for reduce wheel hop. those are really harsh and only for those who are probably going to be racing full time or drag racing. these paired with a good suspension coilover system should reduce alot of wheel hop (then again who would mod the gt-r right?).

If you can pull the codes from the car i can quite happily tell you what is wrong and how it fix it.
Your car sounds like it's either a selenoid or clutch pack seal issue,i am guessing the latter.

Don't sweat it, the gearbox is a easy fix.

Shoot me a PM if you need a hand.

PPG stuff is great, BUT don't let PPG install the gears into the box themselves (not an issue for you guys). Problems I have heard of were PPG reusing roll pins etc and coming loose, then PPG not honoring the warranty (or their workmanship) when it all goes bad.

A few threads on SAU on the subject.
