I have a couple grand sunk into my audio system, and as far as systems I've done, I'm very happy with the results. I went simple and individually amped each speaker and did the crossovers at the preamp stage. I used a top shelf set of MB Quart separates up front, and a pair of Pioneer 10" subs in the rear, all driven by Polk Audio amplifiers. I always use Premier head units and it's a very nice and clear system; I'm glad I didn't use rear flll speakers.
Problem is...in a tuned Skyline, it's all completely pointless. I need the volume at 90% or above to hear it (and that's very, very loud, I have 80 watts per speaker up front, that's 320 watts just for the front soundstage)....or I just take the easy route and turn the car OFF to listen. Should have just saved the money and the weight (fairly significant when you factor in all the MDF I used to solidly mount and dampen the speakers), but what's done is done. Good stereos are for quiet unperturbable cars like Lexus. For symphonic majesty in a GT-R, simply roll down the window. Need ambience? Find a tunnel ![]()
