Spec-V review

Here is a real world review of R35 GT-R Spec-V from forum member R35 395 (he more active on US forum), he actually owns a Spec-V (or should i say owned) he also owns a Normal R35 (fast becoming heavy tuned), as well as numberous other supercars.

"I paid $410 k after taxes for this car and it is far from impressive, and my heart is set on a LP560-4 so it has to go.
My modded GT-R kills it and i am not keen on pouring more money into a 2nd GT-R for mods, not worth it and my wife thinks so too as looking after maintenance, insurance for 9 cars is not easy or cheap.
My beloved RA-R is going too.

Now sold...

‘I traded it for a black Ford GT and lost about $40k on that rotten purchase, it's overpriced and not that terrific and most guys here with a tune and exhaust would kick it's ass at a % of the cost, too much hype about this car and overboost feature is a joke.
I am done buying Nissan's until they build something that is not just a standard GT-R with some overpriced bits on it.’

Guess what Middlehursts had hidden in their GTR workshop last week?

The techies had been told to go nowhere bear it under pain of the sack!

Poor pics as taken on my iPhone.

It was the exhaust that gave it away under the cover.....

Spec V

For most of the human race the spec V doesn't look anywhere near worth the extra money. However, it may help Nissan extend the model life if they keep bringing out further improvements slowly.

yeah i agree, i cant see it being worth the money its up for ,

it is a shame as they are lovely car, just not that much more spec compared to the stock GTRs for the massive price increase.

Nice car! Whether it is worth it is another story... But to be an owner would be a great thing.

The car at Middlehurst was the car that is running at Goodwood: Festival of Speed 2009

I think the price of the SpecV depends on where you're coming from. If you compare it to the standard GT-R it's a big leap and offers some minor performance upgrades and a different finish for a lot more money. If you're looking at it for prestige/rarity value then it's a different argument: how many GT-Rs? How many Spec-Vs? If you're comparing it against a top of the range Porsche or the new Audi R8 V10 or perhaps some other exoticar then it's a whole different question. It's all about your point of view.

Was at the FOS yesterday and I have to say I didn't notice it was a Spec-V.

Huge presence by all the large manufacturers there.

Excellent day out though!

Why buy a Spec V when the LM is coming out in under 2 years - I will be putting my name down for one providing it is a better colour than the last LM.

Saw spec V, which left me cold.

Agree, that I think you can do as well engineered, and more effective, aftermarket.

I'd like to see a lower weight, bigger power, car from Nissan.

The carbon bits are definitely a win but you could do that for much cheaper on the aftermarket. Love the rear wing. Not sure you could do much about the weight of the GT-R. A lot of the cars weight is inherent in the chassis and is ultimately responsible for the cars incredible performance around tracks like the Nurb.

The Nismo wheels are a major win. Performance and capability wise no other wheel could possibly stack up.

The brakes are a major major lose. Porsche has discovered over the past few years that the majority of customers have chosen not to tick the PCCB option and even those that did eventually replaced them with more affordable and less fussy, quality steelies.

There are firms all over the world now building high quality endurance type steel brakes that are capable of sustained performance in heavy cars +1500kg. This change alone would shed massive dollars from this cars price and maintenance cost.

The exhaust and over-boost is a gimmick. That money would have been better spent strengthening the cars cooling system for track events and the like.

And still no 'ring time for this car? What happened?

You nearly got more bits on a r34 v- spec compared to the non v and that was only round about 3k more than standard ,chuck on a carbon wing and lower spoiler and then charge 3 times more Apart from the midnight purple colour and a carbon rear spoiler it looks nothing special .Said it loads of times the Zele car looks like what the Spec v should be ,that car knocks spots of anything I have seen regarding r35's .
