Yes due to more cars coming and the return of the RS4, I'm afraid it will have to go.

However, I will be possibly looking at another 35 march next year, with the new lights and Sat Nav.

V Power is rated at 99 RON in the UK: Shell V-Power - Tech spec - United Kingdom

But it is known to "go off" quite rapidly so whether you actually get 99RON in your tank is another discussion.

Tesco 99 is 5% ethanol which is supposed to be even better for turbo engines.

Ben, did you get my email about sending me the 99RON map?
Is it ok to regularly swap maps depending on fuel in the tank or does this increase a chance of a problem with reflashes?

BTW, sorry to see you are selling up so soon. Hope you will see the light again and rejoin us! Oh and what "new lights"?

Benji, there have been more than 3 engine failures, Nissan just don't give them any publicity for the obvious reason they don't want a bad press.

A Swiss friend got an engine failure on his R35 while at Spa-Francorchamps in July. The car was towed back to Geneva's HPC. Verdict : a connecting rod bearing (not sure about the translation) was broken.

Despite the fact the failure happened while on track, the engine is going to be changed under warranty - credit to Nissan for that - because it's a "known problem". He was told at least 4 other GTRs had encountered the same problem in the world.

So that's raising the number to 8... which I admit is still very low compared to the number of cars sold, but again we don't know the whole story

Just my 2 cents.

That's worrying! I thought the engines were pretty tough...

Could you find out more, i.e. was it lack of oil or a weak batch of rods/bearings? I presume it was an official 2009 EDM car?

Wrong - it used to be 98 but changed about a year ago.

Take a look at this:

Car is now sold - unfortunatly an offer I couldn't refuse.

Took all the goodies off as these were not required, Y -Pipe, exhaust, Zele rear lights, even the carpet mats (he has the ones with the metal badge) - so if anyone is interested give me a shout.

R.

P.S. I will know at the end of this month if I have done the right thing or not.. If not I will get on the order list for a 2010 car.

I know for sure it wasn't a lack of oil as he had done the pre-track service prior to his track session. From the typical tak-tak-tak noise, the GTR tech diagnosed a problem with a rod and it was confirmed when he stripped the engine down. After that, the tech sent everything to Japan including the blackbox and they got back saying, "Sir, we are sending you another engine".

I can ask him more details but he doesn't want too much publicity about it, in regards to the warranty claim.

Oi, I said so three posts before him!

Did you think it made much difference over the 97RON map?
I might have a go later this week in time for Fighting Torque...

The Y -Pipe is a Milltek system, however the exhaust which was the first full system made will be transfered to another car so it can carry on being used and monitored over time by Milltek.

I thought I would update my experiences on here.

Ben kindly emailed me the 99RON map Chubby was talking about and it has run beautifully for a few weeks now.
The supplied Cobb Stage 2 97RON map that the unit ships with was good, but I occasionally hit boost cut on moderate throttle.
With the 99 map it pulls like a steam train in any gear and absolutely no issues, including when running hard on a circuit.

I'm convinced the fuel economy has improved too, but I keep on messing up any attempts to measure it by going on track days (where it still gets a fairly shocking 6.4mpg!)...
Certainly the car runs more cleanly with far less soot deposited on the rear bumper.

Ben has now sent me the latest tweaked version which I shall upload shortly.
That's the beauty of the Cobb, you can just get emailed the latest maps and put them straight on your car!

If I ever run out of 99 octane fuel, I have the Cobb in the glovebox and can just reload a 97RON map or indeed, change the car back to stock. Amazing.

The Cobb has also been a fantastic tool for my journalism, as it can measure 0-60mph and 1/4 mile times, including 60ft, terminal speed etc.
I have compared it with my Performance Box GPS device which all the mags use and it is accurate to within a 1/100th of a second!

I am just deciding which hardware mods to add (air filter? GTC cat-back?) then I will datalog and get Ben to do me a custom map.

Interestingly, he now has the most experienced and knowledgeable Cobb GT-R mapper in the business working exclusively for him...

Fantastic service and a credit to the GT-R community, keep it up Ben!
