Storm White detailed trying to improve colour match
Hi Guys,
My Storm White 2 week old car was fully detailed on Wednesday. The aim of this was to try and improve the really poor colour match between the main metal body of the car and the front/rear bumpers. The work was carried out by Paul at ULTIMATE SHINE - Car Polishing & Detailing Specialist - CALL 07951938177 here in Scotland. Paul worked all day Tuesday and even started again at 04:30 on Wednesday to finish the job before the car was picked up by the transporter to go to Middlehurst for it's running in service. My heart was in my mouth when he told me he was "Wet sanding" the car to try and improve things. Rather than clog up GTROC with all of the photos etc please see the link to detailing world where he has a post on what he did. Ultimate Shine: GTR Pearl with a bit Pr Awesome - Detailing World Paul is also preparing a full written report for me with step by step photos and text to explain the process of what he did to try and improve things. I am due home today and will see the results for myself first hand, if anyone would like a copy of the report feel free to drop me a PM and i will email it over. Hopefully this may be an alternative to a full respray of the parts which i did not really wanted to do until trying this step first. Regards ScottyB

Wet sanding a brand new car
!rather you than me .Dont want to piss on your strawberry patch but if the car is not the same colour in places then I dont see rubbing it down will make much differance ,seems insane ![]()

Hi Stealth,
Paul tried an approach of using a Gloss sealant to help the flake "pop out" first of all but this made little difference. If you have a look at the 50/50 photo on the bonnet and front bumper on the detailing world link you will see that the wet sanding actually made a difference. The left of the bonnet is after, the right before with a clear line. These guys are pros, it is not like letting the wee man loose with some wet and dry...... ![]() They measure the thickness of the paint using specialists tools and know exactly how many microns they are taking off and it is a precise art. It was an attempt to try and get the colour difference within a tolerable limit rather than go down the re-spray route - I will have a clearer understanding of how much better it looks when i get home tonight. If it has failed then i will need to consider a re-spray - we were doing this to help Nissan as they are having a few Storm White customers with issues with the colour difference. Any feedback we can give will help them decide the best route to rectify things.

Pics look stunning! White really suits this car.
He's done a great job, looks a great improvement in the pics, post what it looks like in the flesh when you see it later!

I can clearly see the differance in colour with the bodywork to the bumpers ,to be honest I would have taken it straight back to the dealers as this car looks the worst match I have seen ,they have a right to fix this even if it meant them doing the work themselves .Sorry but a brand new car should not be like that ,but now you have paid for a third party to attempt the work you are pretty much buggerd ,thats just me though for 55 k I would have got them to sort it .My car is a JDM in white and it's the same colour all round as far as I can tell.
I can sort of see the point for detailers for swirls and small scratch marks etc but that is differant to having a two tone car .

I can understand your disappointment in that colour match.
Agree with Stealth I would have refused the car. Unsure if the Detailer sorted it from the pictures - be good to see some "Sharp' pictures of the car.

I noticed the colour difference when i picked the car up and rather than travel all the way back to Scotland on the train with my family i decided to take my car. I was aware of the issues with the Storm White Colour before picking my car up. In Middlehursts defence they have been superb throughout, it was me who wanted to try and repair the difference using paint correction techniques rather than have the parts re-sprayed, i did not want to paint the car if i didn't have to, a view that Middlehurst fully supported. Middlehurst offered me a re-spray immediately without even having to be prompted, and they offered to pay for the paint correction work and were fully behind trying it as a first option and for that they deserve full credit I have been nice and relaxed about it to be honest as i see myself and Middlehurst having an ongoing relationship with the car for many years and as an adult see no reason to start being unreasonable. The issue will be sorted to my full satisfaction with the continued input of Middlehurst and Nissan of that i am sure. Regards ScottyB

I am relaxed about it mate, enjoying the car to be honest and the very small issue of the paint match in my eyes is never going to affect that....... I can't see it from the inside ![]() Scotty

If Middlehurst have agreed to respray you cant fault em for that(not mentiond in your first post) ,I would have it done on it's first service and taken them up on that offer and then saved I presume about £200/£400 on the detailing as you wouldent need it ,money to be spent on mods etc
