I have enough facts to prove that it is not my fault that the engine broke,it would have broken anyway.....now its Nissans turn to show that they have a customer service and they care about their customers......
It's your car, your oil! I can't see how Nissan can remove anything without your permission?

The lack of independent assessment / Nissan custody of the vehicle, may play to your advantage, but I suspect a less confrontational style may get a result here.

The Canadian guy on Nagtroc is very careful about what he says about Nissan and their managing of the matter.

I would be happy if Nissan would like to talk..but instead of talking they like to hide..

Plasma cylinder coating?
this may help...

What do you want to know about the internals? Obviously I have to be a little careful with regards to confidentiality, but there seems to plenty of higher level info being released already.

With regards to max power, I'd get nervous about 600Bhp! Some of the manufacturing methods have changed since we finished with it (it had Coscast AL heads, block and bedplate, but these are now diecast), but many key components will still be the same such as piston/rings (Hitachi Unicia cast piston with integral oil gallary below the top ring groove carrier), plasma spray iron bore (this does peel off if pushed too hard), same mains, big end, crank etc. The big end bearing temperature is pretty damn high at high engine speed due to the bearing loads and large main bearing size too (this makes it difficult to get sufficient oil flow to the big end, which is why all high speed engines [motorbikes, F1 etc] have centre fed cranks). etc, etc.
the last sentince is the importaint one.

Except I wouldn't consider the VR38 even remotely a "high speed engine" compared to a motorbike or F1.

7k (or even the 7.5k some maps allow) is hardly pushing things in this day and age!

I do think a decent 15w50 oil like Motul 300V should be used on track though and that is what I will be swapping to at my imminent service.

well his story was, that he was doing high speed runs on the autobahn. so it makes sense to me that this could have helped. plus there is no exact data that wink is providing and that doesnt limit it to only motorbikes and f1.

According to some sources, the GT-R that was tested by AMS at Nardo broke down after clocking 314km/h. I assume it´s the same fault as yours, Alex... Anyone else think it´s time Nissan gets to the bottom of this problem?

The car has very good aero partly because there´s very small air intakes in the front. Maybe the coolers doesn´t get enough airflow through them when you´re driving fast (top speed fast)?

/P

Will pick up my GTR tomorrow afternoon!!!!!

Hi guys,i just wanted to give the information that my GTR will be with me tomorrow afternoon again, after nearly 9 weeks of excuses and bad words

I got a complete new engine, with turbos and everything included, free of charge and with full warranty.

This sounds very positive at first, but id say you need to look at not just what i got,you need to see if they would have done it from themselves......no,never,never ever they would have it replaced on their own.
It was just done because they ran out of excuses and didn´t know what to say

I think Nissan Germany needs to learn how to handle their customers, they have a awesome car,but this is just a piece of the whole product, the way Nissan treated me as a customer was definatly not the way they should follow for the future, now its the last chance to make a turn for them.......they just have to do it

Best regards
Alex

I'm glad that it worked out OK so far for you. Wouldn't go like this without a lawyer, eh?

I already stated that I had problems with both my smart's (one broken engine and a broken gearbox in the other one) and also, their customer service is bad beyond believe. It's not just Nissan acting this way these days.

I hope they get these problems sorted, I need to know which Model year I can buy without fear in a couple of years

Marc

Congrats Alex, sad to see it was such a tough fight but happy it is sorted. Question is, will the new engine survive longer periods of 300+ km/h. And if so, why didn't the previous engine. And are all of us at risk on long hogh speed runs or is it just a few faulty engines.

Alex, good outcome eventually, but it shouldn't have needed lawyers. Can you confirm the actual problem and which markets/VIN range of cars it affects?
