Remember Alex paid his money & said he'd rather have a fast GTR without a warranty than a 'slow' GTR with..
He also did numerous 0-100, 0-200 & 0-300kmh runs..
Whilst I sympathise with Alex I also think that he made his choice & now has to live by his decision.
I certainly hope Nissan sort it for him & if they do he'll be a very lucky man..
I have played with the electronics, yes, but this was clearly not the reason for the engine to break, just the reason for Nissan to void the warranty....if they would have not found the remap, they would have found i have been on track or something else....my engine would have been broken even in stock trim,im 100% sure and we will find the reason for this very soon......

I dont need Nissans Warranty, but they should build a engine that is reliable, mine wasn´t and the Nissan germanys presscar wasn´t reliable too.....

Your problem sounds pretty close to what one of the members of the french GTR forum has got (Forum Nissan GT-R).

A swiss bloke got a similar engine failure (klonking noise) during his fourth lap at Spa, about a month ago.

The problem was diagnosed as a failure of one of the "cushions" between the crankshaft and the connecting rod.

It seems that is a rare (?) problem for the early series GTR, and the whole engine was changed under warranty.

However, one of the Nissan technicians mentioned that the problem has already appeared 4 times in the first batch of 300 cars delivered to Europe.

That's all I know.

I'll ask the swiss guy on the french forum if I can get his e-mail adress.

It's probably better if you discuss the matter with him directly.

I recommend that you call the Geneva's HPC and you ask to speak to the GTR tech. He was the one diagnosing a problem with a rod bearing when he stripped the engine down. Maybe he'll tell you more about it.

Really gutted to hear this.

It's bringing back all sorts of unpleasant memories!
I thought it was looking like the VR38 was a lot tougher than the RB26?

How many failures in the US where they've been caning them hard for over a year now? None that I know of.

As you say, it was probably linked to sustained high speed running at 300km/h. How long did you manage to maintain that speed for and what did your oil temp go to?

At the end of the day, if the oil was not too hot, there shouldn't have been a lubrication issue?

I must say this is tempting me to go for a higher spec oil (and trans oil while I'm at it). If warranty is invalid anyway (due to Cobb) then might as well use non-warranty fluids too!

Not yet, today i have arranged a lawyer to make my warranty claim against my dealer......it is not what i want, but when they want it that way and have no open ears for a friendly solution, its the only way to do it.....

I think they had enough time to sort it out.....they have not used the time

I Don't think they've left you with much choice, I'd do the same, its not as if its a couple of grand to fix!! You'd think they would have tried to come to some sort of compromise because its not very good publicity for nissan now!

What does German law say about guarantees etc? Would be nice if Nissan had to prove the mods caused the damage, as lack of/no oil pressure would have to be down to a manufacturing fault surely?
