The hot spots and bearing wear could have happened at high speed, then the bearing(s) fail shortly afterwards, perhaps when the oil pressure drops at idle. Subarus commonly do this just AFTER the high speed run.

For most UK non-track users I doubt they would be able to get enough load on the car for long enough to replicate the same problem (unless many of the sump pickups are blocked as per Martin).

Did u say this was a press car or a dealer showcase car? What kind of abuse has the car had before u bought it? The press cars in the usa have had nothing but trans issues because the press was trigger happy with launch control. But they still sold them and still advertised lc even with that warning.

Then there is the case where the car is making clicking but nissan won't do anything about it yet. They are fighting tooth and nail to not replace any parts. Could be cv/axels, lsd who knows.

I will forward this thread to someone that might help.

No,they dont do anything, appart from wasting my time.......i have had a first inspection of the car today by a engine specialist, its basicly exactly how i said.....we dont know what part broke, but it must be something in the timingchain area...the car had a lot of small metal pieces in the oilpan.....in the next weeks it will be stipped completly with hopefully a Nissan offical with us....we/i have nothing to hide.

check out this thread. i know its long but it may help you with how you deal with your situation.
P2731, P2722 DTC and GR6 failure - NAGTROC - The Nissan GT-R Owners Club

its about the transmission, but it may help with the problem as its simular issue.

I dont know exactly how the engish version of the warranty book is..but the german version clearly says that:

If the failure is reason of the remap...then its not covered by Nissan warranty.......(yes,read it again,it says if the remap is the reason for...)

but i dont think nissan has to prove that the engine failed because of your remapping. Instead you have to proof its not your remapping. I think this would be hard to prove. Your only way would be to find a car with the same failure (as the nissan democar is repaired???). this will be though

Obtaining an independent engineer's report would be my first action if I was looking at a large bill.

This whole thing is a joke, nothing more, nothing less. If it's a mechanical failure (which Alex implies, and I think he's more then knowledgable to find out the cause himself) it is a manufacturing defect.

My last smart engine gave up its ghost because of a misdesigned crankcase venting valve. Although the ECU was reprogrammed (of course, stock smart's are lame), I got a new engine from smart. I have no doubts that if smart would have known of the chipped ECU, they would've tried not to pay, even if they knew it wasn't the ECU's fault. Same case here with Nissan. Its redicoulus.

No, it´s not that hard since there are a number of cars with the same fault. As Alex has written before in this thread, the number is a lot more than 3. I don´t want to spill the beans since it seems Alex wants to keep the number of affected cars to himself at this point, but trust me, it´s not hard to find another car with the same fault.

/P

So was the oil strainer partially blocked with sump pan sealant? was there evidence of sealer broken away from the inner edges of the sump pan? Did you witness the sump removal?

From reading this thread so far, I feel that these are VERY important facts.

No,i have not seen the removal of the oilpan, there was no oilpan gasket left on either the oilpan or the block when i have seen the car yesterday,Nissan even removed all the engineoil......nothing was there for my expert to analyse...but they forgot the oilfilter

I have enough facts to prove that it is not my fault that the engine broke,it would have broken anyway.....now its Nissans turn to show that they have a customer service and they care about their customers......

...

Oh how very convenient of them to remove the evidence............

For your sake I hope that there is evidence of gasket sealant inside the oil filter.

Good luck
