I use a stock rail with -8 fitting one end and a -6 on the other, for the return. Many after market rails actually have a smaller bore than the stock one, the HKS on for example

In your third drawing you show the return from the rail going to ther main tank, which is incorrect, it should always go back to the swirl pot.
This is what I made for my car, I may use it with another engine (a 6.3 litre race V6 that drinks fuel, so the very large swirl pot and double 044 pumps were fitted, which is probably overkill for a 500 BHP RB26) :
