GTR vspec... From unloved to Cherised

**DISCLAIMER** If the former owner is on here then please dont be angry

Right, where to start....

I joined the SO.com site with a R34 GTT and as much fun as it was i wanted more than the slush box could give me. I brought the car back last october from a memebr off SO.com. Any way i was approched by a guy from the deep south (torquay) and i think a member off here who wanted to do a straight swap with me for his GTR so he could race his brother in the same car to prove he was a better driver.

Well late one night we agreed the swap... my car for his car and some cash . Well after a few hours i met him and we did the normal stuff like test drive etc. Now i must say i was a bit disappointed with the condition of GTR when i saw it, stratches, 2 car door dents, some paint peeling off the back bumper but all that didnt help by the fact the car hadnt seen a polish or a clean for what looked liked years.

so after some to-ing and throwing we came to a deal and went our sperate ways.

So the next day some stuff had to be sorted out on the car... first thing was to sort radio out that stayed on after i lock the car. The wiring loom had been chopped about so much and all the joints where sellotaped together so after getting myself a cheap sony radio and din pocket and finding a stero cage to mount it all in that was sorted. Now i hear you asking why do i need a din pocket in a GTR... well this is because the heater controls have been relocated. Well after fitting the stereo that stopped the battery going flat, as the guy had wired both battery and ign feed into the car battery feed lol

Again i dont have a picture of the old radio... i was in to much of a rush to sort it out.

Next job was... stop some rattling. The car drove ok but sounded like it was falling apart so i spent 2 hours going round taking trim off, tightening bits up and then replacing trims. This also including replacing the interior light as it was paint red, so every time i open the doors at night it looked like the red light district

Right i know im boring you but please hold on... pictures soon

Last saturday was the day to attack the body work. So i rang my mate to ask him if i could use his drive way so i got myself a new bucket and sponge lol, polish, cloths and clay bar So i washed the car then dried it, Clay bared it washed and dired it, polished it then washed and dired it then finally polished it again. Now i am starting to feel better about the car

So this is what i started with:

This is what i have now :

Next job was the wheels. This wheels look like they had mould growing on them. So i clean them with hot water then got the metal polish out. Now by this time it was getting dark so i will do them again this weekend.

Before:

During:

After:

So thats the story so far. Here is a list of what i got to do:
1. Lower the car
2. once lowed decide weather to refurb the 17's or buy 18's
3. Brakes (discs are cracked)
4. Replace boost solinod
5. Re-spray in black
6. Re-build

Current Spec is:
R33 GTR Vspec
Std Engine
Std Turbos
HID headlights
1 bar boost
17" lightweight wheels
Brembo brakes

Service coming soon also
NO SMOKE

Just Brought these bad boys

R34 GTR turbos

Also on there way are also:
HKS coilovers (purple in colour)
Uprated discs - front and back
Uprated Front Pads yellow stuff
Normal rear pads
Braided brake lines

So this weekend coming is coilovers and breaks on saturday and general clean of the engine bay on sunday but sundays plan might change to refurb of my wheels.

Need to find this whistling also and then its new turbo's and remap

I can then start saving for full rebuild

It's the re-gassing valve - under that cap needs a specialist to check it though, can't use an airline. One way to check that they are not completely sha@@ed is to remove the spring and push the piston in and out by hand it should only move slowly checking for smooth resistance in and out, but this won't tell if you they are working at their best, just that they are completely knackered if there is little or no resistance.

From new they will clunk more than standard as the top mounting is of the pillow-ball type and not cushioned by rubber as on the standard shock. But it might also mean that the shock absorbers aren't absorbing any shocks ie sha@@ed..

Who cares about your rusty Datsun, show us more pics about your girlfriend . .lol

No honestly you`re on the right way. If GTRs would just be running for ever without faults it would be a boring matter . . . . you learn to appreciate a car truly from the day on you start working on it. Some girls need to be inspected more deeply to be really appreciated . . . the GTRs are amongst theses . . .

Have I missed something?
The other guy approached you to do a straight swap, for a strange reason,- but why did you want to swap your (standard ?)R34 for his standard R33 which needed cleaning up?

Maybe as the R34 is a GTT, and the R33 is a GTR....
