Thumbs up

I took Jurgen's GTR around the block this morning after we have installed the gearbox upgrades including Dodson Promax clutch kit. The car drives like standard with a slightly more positive gear changes Although I only drove gently up the road and back you can tell the car will be a real animal once setup. The combination of the exhaust and the AMS fuel system rumbling away signal some bad intentions

I sure all your hard effort will be worth it Jurgen it was a pleasure to work on a car that this much enthusiasm has gone into

Onto another Nissan GTR race gearbox now

The optimum temperature for your water system, regardless of tune is 85-95c, the method in which you regulate this is variable, but driving around at 70c because you have a race stat is definately not what people should be doing.

Perhaps some more testing needs doing on your 900brake GTR's you sanctimonious no it all prize prick

[USER BANNED FOR THIS POST FOR 1 WEEK]

it should be more than 1 week imo, if tuners/trade members can not give their free advice without conflict (you can either take or leave it )
who said any thing about driving around at 70c (we said we start opening a stat@around 70c, fyi the water pumps are fine !
Jurgans car has had the upgrades req,not to run excessive temps
rad/stat/ and fan mapping upgrades by gtc
unless the whole bumper is changed or redesign eg like the top racing editions
every little bit of help with 1000bhp is required
I reiterate lower temp stats do work well in this combo...kk

KK, So not to overload everone with all the detail this is the important part from the science behind engine temps

"An engine needs different temperatures. The inlet including the compressor of a turbo and in the inlet trumpets and the inlet valves need to be as cold as possible. A countercurrent heat exchange with forced cooling air does the job. The cylinder-walls should not heat up the air before compression, but also not cool down the gas at the combustion. A compromise is a wall temperature of 90°C. The viscosity of the oil is optimized for just this temperature. Any cooling of the exhaust and the turbine of the turbocharger reduces the amount of power available to the turbine, so the exhaust system is often insulated between engine and turbocharger to keep the exhaust gases as hot as possible."

So provided the earlier opening thermostat compensates for the extra heat produced by the extra power and the engine wall temp is 90 deg C then all is good. Therefore it's not the water temp thats the issue its the engine block temp which of course is dictated by heat generated and heat removed so if you are addding more heat due to running more power then you need to keep the water temp lower to take this heat away or circulate it faster.
If you are going to run hotter then you need to look at the Engine Oil viscosity to ensure it is correct for the higher temps.

As i live in the cold North my preference for engine oil has always been the factory standard and i have not been tempted to go with more viscous oil like others have. If i lived in a warmer climate and had more BHP then this would change

on the topic of oils we tend to always run 10w60 in our track cars...

a bit thick for start/stop town driving perhaps but deals with the heat on track.

We try to keep oil temps under 100 (thermostatic oil coolers etc).

What oil cooler setups are these high power R35's running?

PS - John. Do you fancy putting your R35 on the rollers at a RR day in Aberdeen? We have 1 35 coming along already and I'm going to speak to another this afternoon to see if he fancies it.

Hi Adam,

Agee with you completely on the Oil choices and if i ever had the balls to race proper i would probably run with higher viscosity but as i'm a Drag Queen my Engine Oils never get much above 90 deg C. But of course when i do the transplant later this year and am running 850 + BHP then i may have to look again at everyday oils verus when i'm using all the GG's based on what Oil temperatures I see on full Chat and what i see running around town.

Would love to do a RR day to check on the Beast as i've not done one for over a year and much has changed since you skelp me at Crail

I'll be up for a rematch

Were running about 100bhp more now, and a bit less weight

I'll pm regarding the RR day.

BACK ON TOPIC for Jurgen.

Best of luck at TOTB! Can any of these 35's get round corners as well as they rip up the straights?

after the long trip back having had the Dodson pro max clutches and uprated gear and OSgiken diff fitted - car deservedly got fully washed and polished and we fitted its new Dry Carbon GTC Ltd Edition bonnet.

(i got it customised with white as opposed to all carbon)

hope you like it ( its going back to bodyshop for a bit more white and pearl to get colour almost spot on- i wish i was not so fussy at times)..

end of next week if time allows we will start mapping.
