Excellent news! We***8217;ll have to wait and see what actually materialises, but taking the speed guns off those interfering oldies is a return of common sense.

thats all well and good but i read in the paper that the police have replaced old traffic vans with new state of the art cameras in costing a total of £28k each and they have got cameras in every possible direction so soon they will know if your on your way to meet the bit on the side let alone speeding. Thats me ****ed then

Good! The government would earn more in tax in the long run if motorists were left alone anyway.

i find the safety campaigners who are going round saying that carnage will ensue becasue theyve turned all the cameras off very irritating!!

erm

why tell us they are off? why not switch them off on the quiet, then we'd never know

dumbasses

Places have cameras as a source of income, its got absolutely nothing to do with road safety.

I'm quite fortunate as where i live and i'm rattling my brain here so i dont look like a fool, but i cannot think of any fixed speed camera in St. Helens. Yes we will get the odd mobile one here and there, we've got digital speed indicators dotted about and traffic calming in certain places. BUT NO SPEED CAMERAS.

Would love to see the figures on how we compare with the national average with regards accidents etc. Cos its certainly not carnage or like whacky races everytime you go out in the car.

Feel sorry for people that live in Stoke and the surrounding areas. Went through there a few months ago heading towards Leek and you'd not gone through the 1st and you could see where the next camera was. Must of had 12 of em on 3 mile stretch of road.

We just managed to survive driving cars before Police fund Camera's ,I'm sure if they take a few down we should still survive

As of Sunday the 8th of August 2010 all cameras in south Oxfordshire have been decommissioned , trouble is most of the roads are in such a shit state that you cant speed , enjoy

If you believe Jessa Clarkson then Simon Cowel pays more income tax than speed camera`s make revenue , with no cameras everyone will probably go back to doing 40mph EVERYWHERE as they do here in Oxon and Berks , dose this not make a mockery of the Safety aspect of putting up the cameras in the first place , should have privatized it like everything else in the UK , never bothered me really as i slowed down for yellow boxes in plain view on the side of the road , if you do get caught by fixed camera then driving without due care is more the crime !!

I still remember going on holiday ...leaving stealthy gray cameras behind...back a few weeks later to brightly coloured ..stick out a mile boxes.... never saw cameras as a problem.. it's nice to test the brakes every so often
