Standard firewire if miniDV (20 odd quid)
Standard TV Tuner card if analogue (SVHS/Composite) - (30 odd quid)

The software does the clever stuff.

www.emule-project.com for all that.

Dont pay over the odds for stuff that is bundled with overpriced software.

HTH

Isn't that the point of digital ? Be surprised if it didn't. Specs must be on the internet somewhere....

I have Samsung jobbie with firewire and standard firewire card. Capture is no problem. Editing takes a lot of time, not the processing just sitting there & doing it!

FYI, Firewire, I.Link and IEE1394 are all the same thing.

Sure is
Sony call it i.Link, Mac call it Firewire and everyone else refers to it by the specification number IEEE1394.

Reading that link, you will need an 'analogue' capture card with this camera. As mentioned earlier, normally a TV tuner card will provide this, but some are limited as to file-size / duration. OK on a budget though. You may get dropped frames on a lower spec system.

Oh well, thanks Jason. Serves me right for buying something without looking into it first. I just assumed that as it was digital, it would be more suitable for PC editing than Hi8 or whatever...

Cheapest one I can find is Pinnacle Studio Moviebox USB.

Here's a review: http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h436.htm

Here's where its available for £124.05 inc VAT: ebuyer

If your PC doesn't already have USB version 2, you might need to get it for increased data-bandwidth: £7.80 inc VAT ebuyer again

All is not lost! What is the spec of your PC ? (CPU, hard-disk, display card, memory)

Thanks Grinder, much appreciated. I'm quite happy to discuss the spec of my GTR but I wouldn't embarrass myself on here with the spec of my PC... I'll pm you a little later, off out now...
