After about 10 hours of carefull cutting and shaping we were left with just an outer roof skin with a double thickness rim around all the edges:

We capped off the top of the A pillers to tidy that up then put the roof skin back on:

This way the front, rear and side windows can go back in easily if we want to.

It's pretty simple really. The stock gear stick will sit inside that cage like section which the dash pod is attached to.

Rob will then pop a trained monkey in there who'll shift the gears for you. Should save valuable tenths.

Won't the roof wobble at high speeds without the inner ribs?

Don't worry, a second monkey will grab all four corners of the roll cage and press his pelvis up against the roof at high speed.

We'll see how it feels once the windscreen is glued back in and the side windows and rear window is mounted etc, if its a probem we can run supports from the cage to the pillars but it actually feels surprisingly strong as it is.

On with the update:
I purchased a 1 piece rear clip as it was cheaper to buy a complete rear clip than a pair of rear guards and a bootlid seperatly and seeing as I wanted to keep an original rear bumper and tail lights etc I cut off the rear 1/4 panels so we could mount them over the original guards:

I also cut out the bootlid skin and we mounted that to the body with zeus clips:

But before we did that, we opended up the rear clip and stretched it out over the car and test fitted a wheelie bar, just to see what it would look like

just realized the seating position is moved back...like the R34 JGTC cars. That's pretty sweet I have to say!

But it does beg the question - with the revised seating position, why restrict yourself to keeping the stock firewall and stock engine position? Moving the engine six inches backwards has been done and is quite interesting...no worries about the fan hitting a massive radiator
