Yellow stuff
I suffered like most with cracking discs after just 5k and the original pads laminated just as quick and at the time others had bought yellow stuff pads so i went with these as well. I personally have been surprised as i went to Millbrook on them and yes Colin said they are good for lighter cars however on that day mine worked very well with no fade so i thought i will change them once they had worn. 1 track day and 8k down the line and they still have plenty of life in them so i would say it must depend on the individual driving styles. On another note i need new discs and as my service is overdue i am thinking of taking a drive to Litchfields to get new ones, does anybody use the Alcon discs as i see they supply them or are the AP ones better?

They are pretty much the same mate. The Alcons are more expensive but you get the bell with the rotor which you do not with the AP`s. You have to weigh up whether its cheaper to pay the labour for Litchfields to fit the Alcons which is far easier than one of their blokes fannying around with all the little bolts which you have to do to fit the AP`s. If your doing it yourself then AP`s is a no brainer.

although XP12`s offer great stopping power. the day to day "squeal" you get from them is horendous.! not for road at all really.....

On the contrary a good couple of stops leaving the motorway exit till the last second has them nice and hot and gets rid of the squeal for a while but yes , commuting will cause them to sing. They are designed for hot use.

My next mod will be to upgrade the breaks and I'm considering the same upgrade of AP rotors on the front, new fluid and break cables but I'm undecided whether to go for XP8 or XP10 pads. I dont track the car and would like the X10s given they may be slightly better at stopping the 1.8 tones of GTR.
Has anyone who's used XP10s suffered from squeel, I dont want any noise from the pads?

In my experience all XP pads squeal to some degree or another. They do not like the slow stop start driving. Once at a suitable temp and given some stick they quieten down but the squeal will return if commuter driving is then undertaken. XP8`s working temp is much less than say an XP12. All have the same initial cold working performance but as the temperatures increase the XP10`s and then the 12`s get into their stride.

I've been using Carbonetic R-Spec pads for the last year and they've been fantastic. Very sharp bite (takes some getting use to), but totally fade free even on hard track use and generally silent.
I say "generally" because light braking in the rain can get them to sing for a bit. But a couple of hard brakes and they're silent again and stay so even in traffic etc. Best pads I've tried on the GT-R so far and I've tried a few. Only Pagid to try now, and I believe their RS29s are excellent. I've always used Pagids before, but they did squeal under light use. Are the RS29s better?
