AP Racing 12 grooved replacement rotor - Review

After getting the usual fob off from Nissan about how my discs have cracked because they were cooled down to rapidly at one trackday I have purchased a set of AP 12 grooved replacement rotors to attach to the original bell. If Nissan think I`m going to stump up exorbitant amounts of cash for their sub standard rotors - they are sadly mistaken.

Mr delivery man today arrived with these :

Yes they look like pizza boxes....... ! ........ but way heavier.

The discs looks well made and the mounting bobbins that come as part of the kit look the part too. The vanes on the rotors look very chunky and as you would expect from AP - very well wrapped. The rotors are sided and the correct installation will see the vanes pointing to the rear of the car to allow the air to be drawn in through the centre and expelled out of the outer diameter.

New pads will be fitted at the same time which are being supplied by Carbotech and will be XP10`s.

Fitment will commence in the near future and I intend to update the review accordingly.

I got my rotors from Autocross Ltd who are based in Berkshire and can be easily found on google. The guy gave me a price which was lower than rrp and when queried he honoured it despite realising so got my business. I did phone around a selection of the suppliers listed on the AP website and compared them all aswell as some traders on here. Many were selling at £545 + vat which seemed a good price. The J hooks were much more expensive ( aprox £50 extra per disc ) which I wasnt prepared to pay ( just for a funky pattern on the face ).

Pads come from Ian at carbotech - no idea of price as was owed a couple of favours.

Edited to add - Beware as some traders were trying to bump the price up telling me I needed to pay extra for the bobbin / fitting kit . Forget that - its all included in the kit straight from AP.

Thanks for the info.
Have heard they can take a bit of time to fit compared to a straight swap with the bell.

Is that price per pair?
I will be going down the AP route myself soon as my discs obviously cooled down to quickly as well...

yes mate the price in my post was for two rotors + fitting kit. As for time fitting - I wont rush it but from what I can see , its only 10 bolts per rotor and the tightening is a two stage affair once centred.

Ho, ho, you took that GTR size Freezer to the track day with you again?

I have told you about that. Kills the environment and your discs.

Im using HEL brake lines, got them direct from HEL, they didnt come with the correct mounting gear so were a nightmare to fit (apparently) but seem to do the trick, I havent lent on them yet but early impressions are good, the peddle feels firmer and more presice with the PF Discs and Pads.

Your not wrong having just been priced a litre of GTR brake fluid for the other thread I started. £72 for one litre. Thats more expensive than Castrol SRF FFS

Sumo Power sell the correct Goodridge SS lines for the GT-R. The Do Luck ones they first tried to fit didn't have the correct connectors, although that might have been a faulty example.

The GT-R doesn't need "GT-R brake fluid"! Motul RB600 or RB650 will do fine. Much cheaper than SRF and doesn't need replacing every year. Check out Camskill.co.uk for good prices.
