I'd recormend the Forge system - I think it fits and looks better - I have had one on my car and it does the job, is very quite in operation and even when the going gets tough (if you know what i mean) keep the temps all under control.

I have only been on track 3 times, once at Silverstone GP (Trax), the Ring (when you were there) and a very wet Spa.

The temps are much lower when the system operates, which is approx 95 deg before the pump cuts in - the temps not only stay low, but on a cool down lap usually return to below 95 deg before the lap is over.

I have seen 124 and 126 deg before fitting - I think the highest I have seen is around the 110 deg mark with the kit.

I have also had a slight upgrade on the cooler / washer bottle which should help as well for this year.

Out of interest, what is the ideal temperature for efficient safe operation of the transmission?

Now there's a question - Depends on who you talk to (HPC's or oil manufacturers) which oil you use etc...

I have been told that the transmission oil does not go off until at least 140 deg, but then the HPC's have said 110 deg which was then raised and rasied again so I think now they say 125 deg...

Also I have found that the temps are different if I use the trans in manual or auto...

But I'm sure there is someone who will be able to give you the correct answer.

I also change the oil on a regular basis - I have doen 15k miles and have had 4 engine oil changes and 3 trans - just to keep me happy - 18k the diffs will be next - and I don't feel that i abuse the car too much...

On the OEM oil I would not like to use it above 110 degrees for an extended time. I used to use 115 as the cool down point when I ran OEM oil and even after 4000 miles it was pretty burnt, I then used FFL4 and ran that to 120 degrees and that faired a little better, now with Willall TML I don't worry about the temp full stop .... but I still use the Forge cooler and have not seen above 109 degrees so far.

Having said that with the Willall TML I ran to 129 degrees with no problems, you must also bear in mind that even if you cool the transmission the diffs still get too hot and need the oil replacing on a regular basis, I swap the 2 diffs out after a max of 2 track days.

Thanks. So no like for like testing as of yet, i.e. same track, similar-ish conditions, temps noted?

What is the washer bottle situation with the Forge kit? Does it need to be removed/replaced with a smaller one? Do they supply a smaller one if needed?
Can't imagine driving a road car without a washer bottle!

I have had the FMIC from forge which has the washer bottle fitted - I believe the washer bottle is now slightly smaller and a different shape to allow better flow of air over the Trans intercooler.

The stock bottle and location are left alone ... no need to disturb them unless like Chubby you want even better cooling.

I currently have the HKS Kansai cooler which is relatively inexpensive and cools the coolant before it goes to the tranny heatexchanger thereby allowing it to absorb more heat. It works well for me as locally we have no race track and the best I do is spiritied street driving.

If you're tracking the car I would recommend either the HKS or the Greddy as neither of them require external pumps and the installation is alot cleaner.

The biggest advantage IMHO of those 2 over the pump based coolers is there is one less electrical item to fail.

Yes, but according to multiple reports on NAGTROC, neither the HKS nor GReddy coolers have the capacity to keep temps below dangerously high levels during extended use on track.

Oh and they happen to cost MORE than the Forge or SVM options!
