Fourtoes, Blue 30 TWO. Part 2

I thought probably about time i started a new build thread for my car as the current one is almost off the screen with the amount of pages i've built up overt the last few years. (making it hard to use on iphones etc and look/search through).
So for anyone new to this build here's the old thread Part 1
Fourtoes, Blue 30 TWO
And so onto part 2 of Fourtoes, Blue 30 TWO. Hoping its going to be as much fun to do as the older stuff.

My mate Mr Fil helping me last time with refitting the engine.

Cheers

bob

Ok so to get things started here's a few thing's ive been quietly working on over winter.

First I was after some group A replica mirrors, to replace the heavy electric OEM ones.
Anyway Al kindly found these for me on YAJ, and they were quite cheap, even though they weren't Group A replicas, i thought they'd do for now, they ticked most of the same boxes, the design was different but would be good until i manage to source some real replicas.

Alas i dont have a pic right now of how they arrived from Japan but they needed a bit of work.
First thing I did was sand them back and drill out the existing captive nuts, (that just span when you tried to use them). that are used to attach the mirror to the mirror plate.

Once i got a good smooth surface, i masked off the mirrors themselves and used a plastic primer and then a high build primer on the mirror casings.

Followed by a few base colour coats of Mitsibushi Fiji Blue.

And finally a few good coats of 2K clear to finish off with.

I did the same with the backing plates, although i had to use some plastic motorcycle panel filler as the holes were in the wrong place to be spot on. I used brand new stainless Rivnuts and put a small amount of Araldite into the holes prior to fitting them so they would never rotate and stay fixed. Worked a treat

Turned out pretty well and super, super lightweight.

And here's a before and after on the car for comparison.

Before

After

Next project was Gearbox's

I aquired a second hand OSG gearbox to help deal with my new power hike.
Now after spending a good few days on my own and then finally with my mate Fil, (who only popped in for a cuppa on his way back from looking at a motorbike), and finally removing my previous stock R32 box, I decided i didnt want to be doing that again too many times.
So I decided even though the OSG gearbox was probably fine and dandy id get it stripped and checked over so that it would be in the perfect condidtion before refitting into the car again.
There really is only one place I could have sent it. So off it went on Palletline.
to RB Motorsport, UK's No1 OSG specialist and importer.

cheers

Hey Bob,
Are you going to put one of these in while the Box is out of the car?

elitetech automotive - Nissan Skyline GTR Parts, RB26 R32, R33, R34, R35 GT-R - www.elitetech.co.uk

Very Cheap, Just ordered one, And they only charged me 1.50GBP postage to NZ!
Chris.

Unfortunately I missed the ones Matty was selling a while ago

Cheers,

Chris.
Sure am Chris, I already spotted those, a total bargain! (have one safe in my tool chest waiting to go in). I did get quite a few laser cut in stainless based on Al's original Nismo one but they didnt quite get it right and so made fitting the gearstick once installed a real bugger.
But the ones you found seem great!
Defo allot easier to do with the box out too.

Hee hee Glenn ya bugger!!! Yeah I keep looking at it thinking the same, but i need to find a good way of cutting it neatly. Although to be fair I should prob just get a new one made up, help my FMIC cooling too.
(plus the one i have is well old and still has "www.skylineownersclub.com" at the bottom!

Know how you feel Lee mate!
Still it will be worth it in the end believe me!
My inspiration is sitting around a BBQ at Le Mans on the camp site with a cold stubby beer, cars parked up next to us as the sun goes down on a great day of driving French roads and racing car watching, somehow that just makes all the blood sweat and tears worth while!

Will you be taking it this year Bob? I remember I spotted you driving near Beausejour campsite a couple of years back. I hope to take mine this year, would be great to see yours in the flesh - looks a stunner.

Yes, thats exactly what I was thinking,
I cut mine down with a pair of tinsnips, but ours are a bit smaller already (mine fits on the bottom lip of the spoiler)
I did have a really nice sticker made that was exactly like a number plate but smaller , but as skylines are cop magnets over here, every second cop that drove past pulled me over and told me that wasnt the "real" plate and I have to fit the proper one.

Is it feasable to cut yours down and run some windlace around the edge, and or you can hinge them in the position yours is in so they swing up at speed ...

Everything else looks awesome, especially if the sump isnt leaking now ...
