Tranny Oil - Will it keep 18 months

Since i have no takers for the spare 10litres of FFL4, i thought i might as well keep it.

Now my head tells me that if the oil can survive a lifetime in the BMW M3 DCT gearbox, in all weathers, it should be fine living in the container for 18 months (at most) till i come to changing it again, in my garage.

But not knowing anything about oil life expectancy etc i thought i'd ask just for peace of mind.

Ta in advance for answering what might be another of the R35 owners dumb questions that the R32/33/34 guys love so much

The only possible downside is if the oil is in a half full metal container you will be more likely to get moisture in there caused by ambient temperature fluctuations. I'd decant to a smaller (plastic) container(s) with small air space and I think you'll be fine.

And just to give a stupid answer that your were expecting, I think your warranty will still be intact after swapping containers Best do it at night though so no one sees you!!!

The BMW FFL4 comes in a 20litre plastic container.
Not the £20 metal container that the Nissan oil comes in.

Will see if i can get a 10litre container from somewhere. Good idea. Ta

As for Warranty, i'm about to call Admiral and see how they are about Cobbmatising my car

Be careful, i'm sure ts admiral that will let u replace / upgrade the ecu (chip) but will not cover re-tuning of a chip. Honestly, i know what your thinking. Whats the ****ing difference. I know Zed Ed will be able to shed more light on this.

My words were"I'm thinking of getting a remap which will give my car more power" but i realise that probably doesn't mean much and it's my responsibility to check the finer details.

Cheers for the heads up. Very much appreciated. I'm all ears

I am with Admiral and have a remap + 15% OEM power on my policy with modified exhaust - they charged me £10 extra.

I had this checked 3 times to make sure and I was told the same every time.

My policy renewed Nov 10 should the rates have changed since??

D

I guess it depends on you what you're paying already, and your risk profile.

Mine is a multicar policy fwiw.

Just spoken to Admiral and yeh he said that it said chipping is allowed but no mention of remapping.

He also said injectors were on a restricted list by the under-writers.

Saying that, 25% power increase, exhaust and intake mods £65 extra.

Really weird if you ask me.

I think i might email them again and check!

Yep, that is what they told me

I had no confidence in them re mods, so I switched to CCI and picked up track cover for five days, for the same wedge.

Disclosed mods; ECU, zaust and cooler

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.
