All the time by people who've fiddled and contributed to this subject is appreciated, but Gary Finney from Middlehurst had mine apart today to look at it and has officially declared this to be a red herring.

There is no official recall or technical bulletin on this subject and he resignedly says the GT-R Bluetooth system and mic is to blame for poor sound quality, not the position of the mic.

So not a very satisfactory answer, but equally, there is no point in loads of GT-R owners wasting loads of time (or technicians' time) trying this fix.

If someone can come up with objective, recorded before and after improvements from this mod, then great, but that doesn't seem forthcoming?

I know the MIC is bad quality made but, have you tried in the secret menu and test microphone function on your car? you can hear how awful it is.

Secret menu > audio off > hold menu and turn 20 clicks anti-clockwise with the audio button. JDM models need to turn 20 clicks clockwise.

I completely disagree with the fact it does not make it better. Whether there is a technical bulletin or not is neither here nor there.

The simple fact is that the microphone if on the left side Points AWAY from the driver. When moved to the right it POINTS AT THE DRIVER. I have tested both positions and the best sound is from the RIGHT side.

I cannot give you any technical specifications on the performance from each side , just real world testing talking on the phone.

It takes 2 minutes to do and if you choose to do it then fine. There is no pressure to do it.

All I can report is MY findings so you can make your own mind up.

Totally agree, it is up to each person to decide. But don't be surprised if HPCs prove to be reluctant to do it. I'm only passing on the message from the senior servicing manager at Middlehurst, other HPCs may differ.

BTW, it wasn't because he didn't want to do it, as I said, he had mine in pieces when he phoned me.

You should have got him to test each position whilst on the phone to you. Or at least talk into the microphone rather than talk in it's general direction !

Ok - people hate me not being able to hear them and I spend a lot of time on the phone (yes David I know I talk a lot). Has anyone found a better microphone which can be retro fitted or noise cancelling version. I assume software based noise cancelling mic but a better quality one can't be more than £20 for a really good one perhaps with foam covering to reduce extraneous wind and traffic noise similar to outside TV broadcast. Or are there any further Bluetooth firmware or software updates?

Agreed I may have a crack tomorrow and source a good quality mic from somewhere tomorrow.

I hadn't thought any more about this since Gary told me it wasn't worth doing, but recently I had a passenger in my car who used my phone to make a call and he had no problem talking for quite a while at high-ish speed.

He didn't even have to raise his voice and his wife seemed to hear him quite clearly!
So although hardly a comprehensive test, it did seem to suggest that pick up does work better from the passenger seat.

I've never been able to make a call from the driver's seat without raising my voice and at high road speed, forget it.

Has anybody found a better replacement microphone option or used better acoustic matting perhaps to cut background noise?

Every little helps as car kit is awful still (as are people talking to me through the speakers still)

Chris i started this job this evening, carried out the instructions to move the mike over, prob i came up when i went to install the unit back up, the mike seems to be stopping fitting the light unit back up properly. i think i will have to file some of the body holder to move the mike
