What's the Cosworth 1/4 Mile record?
We had our once-a-year drag race over here yesterday...
A friend's Escort Cosworth ran 9.8x in the 1/4 mile.. is that a record of some sort? Unfortunately I am not very familiar with Cosworth achievements... How did the Skyline do you ask... well.. um...never mind. Ran my first pass with a litre of oil in the intercooler... blow-by .. and finally dead cylinder no. 3 .... If it wasn't for the smoke screen I would have run it, I swear. It still felt fast.

hmmm.....
probably lack of knowledge about the power to weight ratios of a cossie etc but i cannot see a 700bhp cossie doing 9 sec 1/4`s?? I suppose it could be a non road going car is it??

I would say thats a seriously good time for a 1/4 mile in a Escort Cosworth.
Best I have seen over here is high 10s, no doubt there may be something better that I have missed but either way that is a quality figure from your m8, well done 700 is a lot of BHP for the 2.0 engine and the gearbox, I take it when you said this has had everthing done you were not joking!! Have a search for a company called "Reyland" I remember them having a few very fast Escort Cossies and setting a few records including the caravan tow that Simon had a crack at in the Evo.

Low 10`s is the quickist i have seen myself but watch out for kevin sharp and martins escort which is well knocking on the door of the 9`s with only a bit over 600bhp.
Martins car 0-60 in 2.8s 0-100 in 6.0s top speed 190+ run out of room i think on testing! ![]()

I will feature it very soon on my website...
He has waaaaaaay too many mods to list. This is one guy that only buys the best.. mad.. taken him like 7 years of bad luck and on his *first* ever drag pass lands a 9.8... he just obliterated the regional Cyprus-Greece record. He did deserve it however.. the patience is just unbelievable.

Martin hadlands and Mick Rogers have both done 10.6qtrs with 100% road legal cars (inc tyres).
Theres been cossie engined cars in the 9s (road legal) over here, jus not a cossie shell. Been non road legal cossie engined cars deffo in the 8s and i think in the 7s here too. V.Fast for a Esc Cossie tho, what tyres? 700bhp is easy possible froma cossie lump yup i agree, most i ever seen DYNO PROVEN is jus over 750 on a race car, and 735bhp on a road car (have dyno sheets)

Kevs is a SEVEN speed box, but not sequential, is a normal H pattern (well double H as its 7 speeds) with dogleg 1st. Kevs should get a better time somewhere else as Knockhill surface is a bit shit (and also i know of some other plans of his, and im not telling, but itl get a lot faster! and no, not touching the engine). Martins will also get a LOT better as the 10.6 was done with not a very good box, not quite full boost, continental rainsport tyres rather than roadlegal slicks, and hard as **** track setup suspension (which means crap traction on launch)What ive never understood was the Norris EVO, well over 700bhp (so far far more power), better tyres, suspension more suited to good launches, but only 10.9 ANYWAYS, back to this Cyprus cossie, was it on road legal tyres or? Engine, tyre, and transmission spec please if poss! ![]()

The Cyprus cossie was tuned by a guy from England *I believe*.. so someone out there knows about it
He was using some form of slicks pumped up in pressure though to increase wheelspin, as in the past he just kept breaking stuff so easily. Believe me, standing 2-3m away from the car when it launched, that sucker wheelspins a lot, and has a lag in the launch. If it didn't do the latter, it woudl have been capable of low 9s. I do not have his other car details on hand, but I do have them at home (we're adding him to our website ). The specs, photos and video clips should be up by the end of the week. I will however find out the gearbox make for you.

That would be great, thanks.
Look forward to seing the vids too! Wonder who in the UK tuned it? I know Julian Godfrey does a lot of 600+bhp engines for the Scandinavian cossies, and Martin H and Harvey Gibbs does a lot of engines for drag racers in Malta...
