R32 GTR shall rise again. (Warning fair amount of pics)

Hi All

I thought I would share with you a build I am currently undertaking.

First off a couple of pictures of how my R32 GTR looked when the going was good.

And a couple of when it was not so good.

So first things first was to investigate and see how much damage was caused.

We started by stripping down the front end and making sure it still turnt over.

Knowing that the powerplant was okay. Next on the agenda was a new shell. which when found happened to be pretty complete minus the engine and a few other peices.

We drove to Edinburgh to collect this one.

We then moved both cars to the workshop where this story begins.

Although the paintwork was pretty good on the wine red one. I thought to my self what better time to build it how i want it. So the strip down begun.

Out with the interior

off with the glass

Picked up a trust gracer front bumper from RK's along with some trust Gracer skirts. Test Fitted

Not to sure on these though and have also ordered a new GTR front bumper. May just keep it looking standard. so these could be up for sale soon. if anyone is interested.

The parts store, or one of them anyway.

Its amazing how many peices these cars break into.

On further investigation we found a few holes that needed some attention.

Out come the welder

Also while we had some time we started to strip down the black one.

Well we started and pretty much finished. whole interior is stripped as well as the front end. Just need to start on the rear underneath now.

One engine and box removed.

After lots of prep work we started laying on the primer coats

Once this lot had all been done we started under the bonnet.

Firstly we stripped out everything that was in the way.

Sorry didnt take any pictures of all the engine bay bits.

after that we taped up anything that couldnt be removed easily.

And then we started with the primer.

After it had some time to dry, a quick rub down and blast with some air to do away with the dust. We applied the first coat of colour.

The new one's gonna be red!!

Well thats pretty much as far as I have got. Obviosuly i have been collecting loads of parts to replace unusuable parts. Finally the car looks as though it is coming together.

I shall update as I go.

Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

That last pic reminds me of mine a few months back, Good project, and I agree, You might as well just do it all how you want now, and enjoy it once its done, Otherwise you will regret it

R32 GTR rebuild Updated 22/08/2011 more pics :)

Time for a bit of an update again then.

well last we saw was just after we have sprayed the engine bay and we have been hard at work since.

After spraying the bay we got a bit itchy and decided to put a few coats on the car just to see what it would look like.

We didnt go too far as we needed to flat it all back to get a perfect finish.

Next we decided we would refit the items under the engine bay as no doubt some damage to the paint would be caused and this would be a pain should the car have been fully finished.

Nice couple of the engine.

Engine going in.

half way in

Engine in place and bolted down

now was time to flat back the paint as we are approaching the colour stage.

We decided if we wanted to get a great finish then we would need more light and somewhere we could escape the dust.

so we built this

Those halogens do create some heat though! all the better for the paint job i guess :-)

We want the colour to be consistent throughout so the best way to do this is to hang everything on the car and spray the car as a whole.

before we can do this we needed to spray all the door shuts, inside the boot under the bonnet etc.

Under the bonnet now done.

Couple pics of the doors

Spraying under the boot.

Door shuts

A few bits ready for hanging

Thats all for now, I'm going back up there to start putting the doors back on shortly.
