Well final instalment from me on the EBC Orange Stuff as they came out this afternoon.

Pads were in for approx 1k miles, including 1 VMAX event. They came out looking as good as they went in, no cracking no noticeable signs of wear. Pistons did leave quite an indentation on them so the paint might be a little thick.

I would be more than happy to put these back into my car and may well do at some point. They always liked a bit of heat before they really started to bite would be my only real criticism but that's a really minor one.

My replacement setup is definitely better than the OrangeStuff but they did cost more so at the price I do think there are good value for money and based upon the fast road and max speed runs they were up to the job

Looking forward to Eddies track feedback.

Good stuff Chris....having just fitted my AP's and XP12's you are going to be disappointed I think. Compared to stock they are a big improvement once warmed up but they are not a patch on the XP12's.

Alcon fitments shown are

DP9065 front List price £199 a set
DP9066 rear List price £149 a set

For the stock GTR calipers numbers are

DP91983 again £199 a set fronts
DP91110 again £149 a set rears

Beats the Nissan price eh ?????

Waiting for more Feedback from the other six testers with the EBC orangestuff but we now have stock of these pads for sale thru Godspeed for now (they bought the whole pre production batches) on

ian at godspeedbrakes dot co dot uk

Confirming the pads are pre scorched but drivers should do 50-100 miles gentle driving on street top bed in anyway (to your discs expecially) and then 10 stops from 70 to 30 and allow pads to cool overnight.

I talked with the VCA brake test engineer today about getting R 90 on our pads for the GTR and they said they dont NEED IT as the car is not yet homologated, hoping that is correct because if it is, you can use what pads you like on the GTR for street driving.

Cheers guys
Andy
Hi Guys,

Any idea from where can i order those Orangestuff"s ? Godspeed is the only one?

Thank you in advance

OK time for my 2p worth.

My front OEM pads were down to 1mm and crumbling - they were shagged. Rears were half worn but in reasonable nick but took those out as well.

Fitted mine on Monday evening for day at Coombe on Tuesday - fit was easy and perfectly matched backing plates. Felt ok in low speed urban driving but only managed 20 miles odd before hitting the M4 when they completely cooled off, so periodically gave them a shove to reduce 30mph as a method of doing some bedding in before the track work.

Arrived at a damp Coombe so did 10 ish gentle laps trying to bed the pads in and they felt like OEM but I was getting a vibration when half pressing the pedal so abondoned ship and took the car in the car park for a few 40-10 hard stops as I must have excess pad material on the disc - this got rid of the vibration.

Cooled down for 45 mins then out and then did 10 laps with the brakes getting better by the push which gave me more trust to push harder - no dramas and definitely better than OEM but not as good as the Carbonetic or Carbotech pads that i have experienced, but again these are significantly cheaper than those or any other recommended brand.

It should also be noted that my front discs were truly hammered by the OEM pad and there is hardly a drilled hole that does not have a crack, so this may adversely effect the performance of the pad?

I am going to try to complete a further full bedding inprocess to see if they improve further but as my service is due in a month they wll be coming off then but I will report back before then.

David

Did you do anything to remove the old compound from your brake discs BEFORE fitting the Orange Stuff pads David?

I fitted mine last Monday and will be doing a write up when I get a moment.

I have now (last Monday) installed the Orange stuff pads that Andy Freeman had made to fit my Alcon BBK, there were relatively minor issues with the front back plate that required me to machine out the pin location hole as show in the pictures below, there was also an excess of orange paint applied to the friction surface that could easily have been avoided and had to be removed as it was not just overspray.

All the brake discs were thoroughly cleaned with Red Scotch-Brite to remove all traces of the Pagid RS29 compound, Orange stuff were then fitted and for the remainder of this week have be just "acclimatised" to the old discs for bedding in to commence early next week, once bedding in is completed I will report back again.

Err..no! Cant say i have ever done it especially if fitting a more abrasive pad as I thought it would look after that itself??

Perhaps the vibration was as a result of this?

Eddie - as I have done about 20 hardish laps at Coombe on them, do you think I should go through the full bedding process now? If so what do you recommend?

David

PS You didn't respond to my text!

Looking at your photos, are the Pagids crumbling in the middle? How many miles/trackdays have you done on them?

EBC's instructions are pretty clear on removing all the old material first particularly with previous Carbon based compounds. There are a few makes you can get away with straight changes like CarboTech XP range some Pagids like the RS9-2 to RS29 as well as some PMU & Carbonetic pads.

It could well be a large contributing factor to your judder David, but you are still on old cracked OEM discs ... you did clean out the drilled holes didn't you?

Sorry, no useful response to you text possible, I am not a fan of texts as a means of communication anyway.

Believe it or not that have had a couple of gentle use on the German GP circuit and a day at the ring, not much use really. The RS29 normally look like that when fully bedded and used, when they come pre-scorched they look really bad and when I finish with them they look worse

I have used 4 sets of these now and they always look the same, heavily cracked etc but bear in mind the compound is pined and bonded and would take a lot to shift them, I have never had a single failure with RS29s and they have always performs exceptionally well ... they just cost a fortune but last twice as long.

Can't really chat about the RS29s on here too much as it is really for the Orange Stuff review, but I have bedded the Orange ones in now (pretty big smells but no visible smoke) and will be using them on circuit later on this month and will also gie them a mega pounding on a fast road I use for testing.

Nice one Eddie - glad you got them in at last. Looking forward to your input.

One thing that shocked me was how big your callipers are compared to the small pad that sits inside them. Have you got a BBK pad next to an oem pad pic by chance ? Having only seen them fitted and not had a close up I just assumed the pad would fill the whole calliper on that kit but your pic shows clearly not !!!

I don't have any OEM pads to hand Chris but will have early next week, I will take some pics for you then

I do know what you mean WRT the size of the caliper vs the pad thought.
