anyone have to hone rod small end?

wiseco pistons and pins, eagle rods.
Doing a pre build check on all the bits, pin goes through the piston smooth, very little effort to push through.Almost slides through on its own weight with gravity.
however the pin and the rod clearance seems much smaller, a lot of effort is required to (2 thumbs) push the pin through the rod.
Has anyone had to do a slight hone on these rods

thanks

the big end ..is it risky (get zero clearance) doing a dry fix rod to journel,
so i can plastiguage and tell the shop what I need off each rod

sorry no large pin gauge, or bore mic

Chinese rods quite often need so much work done to them you end up spending more than you would have to buy decent ones.

You don't hone the big end tunnel to get the correct bearing to crank clearance.

You need to get the tunnel within spec you so have the correct crush on the bearings.

You then select the correct grade of bearings to suit your journal or grind the journal to suit the clearance you want to use.

cheers Rob

looks like another 6 hours round trip to the machine shop

yup, I tried another rod and the pin goes in easier

I've std crank journals, lightly polished when the crank collar got fitted, going with std acl race bearings..

so what kind of crush height should I be aiming for

Yes yes yes.

We do a complete resize and balance when guys front with rods that we do not recommend using. They then say "i wanted to use them (the brand we like to use) but they were a bit pricey. By the time the cheaper ones are up to scratch its about the same price and in some instances when the little end bush is binned for decent material the cheaper ones end up costing more.

Guys wonder why so many fresh rebuilds throw the shells out of them, it because guys who have no idea rebuild them using these parts straight from the box thinking that they are spot on.

I'm half tempted to go with my own stock rods, for now they are well able for my requirements.
unless I can get the eagles measured and honed correctly.

Makes you wonder how they can be so bad when they're supposidly honed on sunnen krosgrinder, operater, poor calibration?
anyone found centre to centre to be out?

This is not only common to eagles the majority of fried rice rods. Im also a bit suspect on some of the fasteners used on some of these products as their are quite a few ARP's floating around from a communist upbringing. Given that ive pushed 700hp and 9000rpm+ over 3 seasons of racing with a set of well prepped factory rods with ARP's fitted id say what you have suggested is quite ok.

I always try to offer most people the option of our prepped items as they are proven performers and have a National championship series title under their belt in 2004. Im about to re-use those exact rods in my wife's new road car too.

Yes mate I have found this on two eagle rods as it was showing different deck heights on two pistons to the rest, not good
