Running R32GTR Bigger/Uprated Brakes With No ABS Your Opinions Please

i'm just looking for your opinions on Running without ABS on a big brake set up on an R32GTR

is the pedal feel better ?

are they more or less likely to lock up ?

as R32GTR's are early in the development of ABS does this make it any less valuable ?

ETC.....

thanks

Nigel

Nige I've driven mine now without abs, 6 pot front 4 pot rears. And I persinally can't feel anyy loss of benefits to be honest. I did lock my brakes before when I had abs so not too sure how well it was working anyways?
Difficult to make a comparison on how it feels pedal wise as since removing the abs I fitted new calipers to the old setup all round.
I'm delighted with how mine feel is all I can say buddy.

I still have the ABS on mine, the good thing about the old ABS is You would really have to be leaning on it to activate it....it's pretty slow, but I've found it handy at the second corner at my local track (first big braking point from about 160kph)
Try it with the big brakes first, you may find you don't need to remove it, I just changed the Master Cylinder to a R33 GT-R one, and the pedal is perfect.

Removed my ABS unit back in March of this year and despite not tracking it this year I've felt no difference so far ... free'd some engine bay space too!

got big brakes and i removed the abs a couple of years ago
it was triggering too early on some bumpy downhill stretches, especially into tight bends. so we pulled it and i got an immediate improvement.
so recommended for competent drivers
plus you get a weight saving

hi

i'm putting my check list together and time is running out on the decision about the whole brake set up

i still can't decide one way or the other

a wise man once said "its your decision if someone else advises you and you stack your car that wouldn't be good ! "

very true !!!

so its been a few months on from when i started this thread

has anyones opinion changed or does anyone else have an opinion

i'm slightly leaning towards no ABS but........

I removed ABS on my car also, made no difference to the pedal feel.

What made HUGE difference was going from BM50 to BM57 brake master cylinder from a R33GTR.

I tried everything, bigbrake kit, braded lines, adjusting the pedal free travel.

So, if you have a BM44 or BM50 brake master, change it out to a BM57

BM44 23.8mm
BM50 25.4mm
BM57 26.9mm

The standard BMC's have front/rear bias adjustment built in Nigel, so its not advised to add an aftermarket bias adjuster. Al and I were wondering what the large screw on the oem bmc does and if it actually adjusts the bias? anyone know if this is possible? tried it?
cheers

so one would only be needed if a aftermarket pedal set was used ?

I've got a Z32 BMC on my S13, which was always one of the tried and tested S-Body upgrades.

I don't think you need a three outlet BMC to get rid of the ABS. Pretty sure you can use a 'T' off the front outlet to go to the front brakes. You can buy ABS removal kits for S-Bodies that give you all the bits you need.

Edit - I think the Z32 BMC is a BM57

Where's the screw Bob? Are you sure it's not a plug that holds the proportioning valve guts in?
