7.2 second turbo for sale :-) VIDEO's
We went to the first round of the NZDRA championship over the weekend.
We changed the car to comply with the correct weight break and went up a class to CC/D where the NZ record is 7.792 @ 171.75mph, the track was pretty green and we knew there were bad bumps so we detuned the motor as far as we could (15psi) for the first 3-4 seconds then gave it a bit more after that to see how she'd go, we didn't want to go running quicker than the record just yet and we needed to feel out the track. The timing gear wasn't working so we didn't get a slip but the first run felt like around 8.0 @ 165. Gave it just a little more from 1/2 track and went out again, here's the result a 7.95 @ 169mph, keep in mind this is a walking pace compared to what its like on a low 7 second run but it'll give you an idea of what I see: RIPS FED at NZDRA Summer Nationals Taupo 11 Dec 2011 - YouTube We were happy with the first run but wanted to try and run right on the NZ record so we knew the exact tune we need to get it. To lose over 1/2 a second off the ET the car usually runs but still have a reasonable mph is not that easy but with a few changes Jason nailed the boost curve spot on for the next run, a 7.80 @ 171.76, 8/1000ths of a second slower than the ET record and 1/100th of a mph faster than the mph record, can't get much closer than that!! Here's the run, check out the bumps about 75 meters out!!: RIPS FED second practise run NZDRA summer Nationals 11 Dec 2011 - YouTube So we had the tune nailed but unfortunatly the turbo decided to give up at the end of that run, it jammed up solid and now that its stripped we found out why, parts of the turbine wheel had come off and jammed the rest of it against the turbine housing. ![]() ![]() ![]() The turbo has done around 5 years of hard work though, we all knew it was just a matter of time before it blew and we'd even talked about changing the turbo to a GTX45 or a GT47 over the xmas break well it looks like we WILL be changing it over the xmas break now, hahaha.Anyone know how to get hold of Conrad Bradley for a warranty claim? ![]() I havn't had the results from the meeting yet so I don't know how I'll be sitting points wise but thems the breaks, Robbie.

Yeah its a real prick to get to I tell ya
worst part was moving the intercooler forward, 5 minutes in total and she's off.

Isn't that due to either extreem exhaust gas temp or undefined material gone through the exahaust housing e.g. bits of the valve guides?
Atleast thats what i have thought when my turbos have looked like that. And when i took my engine apart 5 of 6 valve guides were missing pieces.... Now go put on something out of the catalog that the guys that are running REALY fast are running with. ![]()

This time a small part of the turbine or the heat sheid got jammed in the turbine housing and once the turbo stopped it was jammed. Quote:

Ok.
I was first going to run the same setup thats why i was trying to find out what caused this. And the only thing it realy can be are either some pieces kill it or exhaust gases melts the turbine. So the solution for me is bigger ![]() This was a gt45 you ran no? So then you apply the same solution then? ![]() Yeah that fiddling around with the power to find the grip thing must be realy annoying? ![]()
