Bridgestone really wanted to keep the GTR tyre supply but Dunlop won it. I think JDM cars suit the hard wall of the tyre, different tyres with behave differently, hence Steve is sort of correct as his car was developed for the bridgestones. If you change tyres you might need different suspension, I didn't like the pirelli on the nissan GTR at silverstone

Do you think when manufacturers make decisions like the above it is based solely on performance lol?

Are pirelli supplying F1 teams because the make the best tyres or because they offered Bernie the best deal?

Be realistic guys there are so many different variables its impossible to argue someone elses opinion because from their own experience, they may actually be correct

I prefer Bridgies because they cost less

Although if the Dunlops cost similar , I'd have them.

Mike, Nissan said no to Bridgestone and said yes to Dunlop as they gave better times! bridgestone tried hard...

I live in the corprate world but in this case its a fact Matsuno San wanted the best tyre!

not interweb bu!!cr4p!

My company sponsors Ferrari, I sponsor motorsport in the UK, we sell to Merc and Maclaren in F1, I know how it works but in this case its different

Ok well I stand corrected lol, but you understand that not every decision is based around performance - as shown by the engine being able to make 1000bhp in tuned form - there is a cost element in everything - also interesting to note that this size tyre is only available through a dealer network.

Can I ask what it is you supply to Merc and Mac? Pm if you prefer

Oh it's newer and they fit dem on Porsches ....so it must be better?!

As far as I'm concerned, they are just opinions and I like the fact that people can rant at me because I disagree with them. And looking at the responses all I see is bunch of overgrown kids with huge egos getting hot under the collar because I questioned their rationale and I dont rate their flaunting of the next misguided purchase. Flaunting is for as$holes.

It is a case of the emperor's new clothes I believe.

How about many people have had a mixed experience of Bridgestones or Dunlops and are open to trying something new??

I don't recall at any point me saying it was better, simply that a few people with a greater level of expertise than you or I (and that have tried the tyre on the car) have stated they were.

Who's flaunting anything? This is a car forum - strange that people might talk about their cars, stranger still that they might talk about modifying them or trying new parts.

Maybe you should try mumsnet?

Sidious, you're obviously very thick skinned and don't mind winding people up. But.......... the truth of the matter is the dunlops do not inspire confidence in standing water - fact. They are a high performance summer tyre & are really good at what it was designed for. If it was all singing and all dancing, dunlop would not of developed the All Season tyre, which i currently run on mine as i never liked aqua planing at 70mph on motorways on the original tyres. I have never felt this on the All Seasons yet.

People are looking at other options for a few reasons, standing water being one of them, price and availability the other (probably the main reason). We hate being held to ransom from HPC's and Nissan. No one has said that this tyre will outperform the OEM spec tyres but they may be a good compromise.

But just to clarify, I don't actually mean drifting competitions... just lots of the sideways action that most people on the forum enjoy to various degrees (see what I did there).

Oh and TAZZMAX, no, but they are actually a tyre that many Skyline drivers like... because they are cheap

Shipping charges

Anyone know what the shipping charges would be from the US for a set of Dunlops from Tyre Rack?

I guess they probably won't ship direct from the looks of the website, but I can get them delivered to a family member in the US and shipped on - just wondered if anyone had done that and knows the approx cost.

Thx
M
