Fuel Pump Direct Feed Issue.

Hi all

As the title says, I have an issue with a direct feed to a fuel pump on my r33 gtr.
Ive just had a direct feed added to a new fuel pump in my car. The cable from the ECU triggers the relay and power from the battery is sent to the pump.

The issue I have is that the relays keeps blowing. it doesnt matter about the engine load, its done it while idleing and at 5000 rpm.

Im using a 30 amp fuse to a 30 amp relay to a bosch 044. The relay gets very warm and then you get fuel cut. When I looked a little closer at the wiring it seems im still using the standard fuel pump regulator.

My question is shouldn't I bypass the regulator and ground the earth cable from the pump to the chassis/ battery?

From my understanding the fuel pump regulator works as a resistor pack on the earth, so making the standard pump work at 8v when idleing and 12 volts on engine load.

Im gonna try it, but just thought id ask if anyone knows.

Depending on aplication why not just bypass it and run batteryvoltage at all times?

And I though the voltage was upped a bit already by just grounding the pump straight to the ground instead off the OEM loom and then the regulator could be bypassed to run +12V all the time if you don't mind the noisy 044 at full chat all the time

so the pump should be grounded to the chassis/ battery? I thought that was bypassing the regulator as it worked on the earth?

I have the pump working at battery voltage all the time, the sound is drowned out by the exhaust its working off a relay which was the problem.
Ive swapped out the relay again.

Have grounded the pump direct and unplugged the regulator, from my understanding its the silver thing to the right of the battery and in front of the blue relay, which is the original r33 fuel relay.

the relay hasn't blown yet, but haven't really been able to give it the beens with the rain at the moment.

still not sure i needed the relay and wiring as from what you've said the voltage would have been upped simply by grounding the pump.

thanks

If you don't get it sorted, give me a shout and i'll bring my car round as i'm running the RIPs surgetank with twin 044's and its been wired in with an extra relay. You can copy the wiring then.

Cheers Jeff may take you up on that. Ive done as above and grounded the pump. Seems i may also need to adjust the fuel in the map too, now its getting all the fuel, which is another problem when your tuner is no longer about and you don't know the password.
