I just posted this on Scoobynet, replying to a thread on speed camera's and decided to post it here also.
RE: Speed Camera's It's all very well complaining about these disgusting offences, but does anyone here actually take physical action against this trend? Are many of you you members of the British Drivers Association, one of the only organisations fighting these crimes? I say it's time to stop complaining and start acting, something people in this country never do. If you get a speeding ticket - FIGHT IT through the courts, make it cost them more than they make, on the ticket, if everyone fights the system will be destroyed. If you see a new speed camera - complain to the council or take other action. If you see those safety camera vans, stop and give the operators some grief, tell them that what they are doing is wrong, and park infront of the camera or something similar. I dont want my country turning into a 'liberal' nanny state, but thats the way it is heading. We must take action as otherwise the situation will only get worse. See this website for more information on fighting http://www.safespeed.org.uk/ Anthony.

Antony I agree totaly,
There was a Safty Van parked up in a lay bay near me, and I had some time to spare so I turned the car off (Primea) and free wheeled in to the Lay by, and right up behind the Van, then got out and opend the Bonet, pulled the Coil lead off, and the tryed to start the car. Left bonet up, the guy got out of the van and drove off, looks like they have been told to avoid confrontation. I felt realy pleased with my self. The Safty van was parked 50 yrds from the 60 zone, and there are only a few houses on one side of the road. he was there only to get CASH !!! The Police wonder why the public realy dislike them more and more. Speed cameras only catch the paid up insured and honest motorist, not the one in the stolen car with bald tyres and no licence etc. ... .

Nice one Nigel, I did something similar recently and gave the operator's a piece of my mind. Disgraceful individuals.
Anthony.

I never thought of that, next time I see a mobile speed camera van I'm gonna spend the day following him and park right behind where ever he stops, should be good for a laugh

Heard on the radio this morning that the first 30 speed cameras have recently been installed in France, seems most have been damaged in some way so CCTV has been installed to monitor them, also the minister responsible was clocked at 20mph over the limit on his way to the 'opening ceremony'
![]() Can't see the French putting up with 'em though RonS

Here's one of many emails and letters we regularly send out to camera partnerships, police, councils etc.
This one was sent to Dick Bowen, head of the Avon & Somerset 'safety camera partnership' Dear Dick In light of the fact that the number of people killed or seriously injured in A&S increased by 13% in 2002, making it the highest for six years - I find it surprising that you still include the word 'Safety' in the title of Safety Camera Partnership'. Surely this must now be changed. I have enclosed some suggestions, that you may wish to consider. I have also included some suggestions without the word 'Partnership' in, as by definition a Partnership must share information with its partners. Danger Camera Partnership Camera Lie Division Killer Camera Squad Secret Society for the prevention of saving lives Hope this helps Regards Redline The last line refers to a recent meeting where councillors asked the camera partnership exactly how many people had been caught and the exact running costs. The partnership REFUSED to give the council (one of the so called 'partners') the information!!! We've now written to the council asking if they're going to be pulling out... Next month we'll be publishing a list of people and organisations our readers can write to with their 'suggestions and comments'...

Try Belgium or the Netherlands...
90% of the cameras have nothing to do with safety whatsoever, just making money. People taking up 2 lanes on the highway at 10mph under the limit get away with it, but if you pass them doing 10MPH over the limit, you're a ferocious killer and menace to society... Trying to fight the tickets is also not a good idea... basically, you'll have to go to court, then the judge fines you about double for the gruesome speed (Yawn) and add a fine for obstruction of justice... Radar detectors are not allowed either in BE, but are in NL In NL there's a group called "TufTufClub", who fights speed camera's and the like. People "linked" in some way to that group go out and torch the cameras... There have been similar actions here in BE in the last weeks, and the minister of traffic is now even setting up a group to catch them...

It could be worse though: http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/gatso22.htm
Is that for making money or slowing people down?!

I have seen various signs along the roadside describing them as "Speed camera", "Enforcement Camera" , and they describe them as "Safety Cameras".
Why don't they just cut the crap and put signs up reading "Money Grabber Ahead"

Here's a photo I'm using as my desktop. Just look what some local juvenile delinquents did to our beloved local gatso.

All speed camera's do is persicute the honest drivers, the people who register their car to themselves and insure it etc.
Gatso's and mobile camera's are placed in useless positions ie where the road is not a built up area and the road is a single carriageway with one lane in each direction. This road could easily be a dual carriageway(you know what i mean you have these roads in your area)however some genius has given this road a 30mph speed limit when a national speed limit would suffice. They then place a camera here to generate revenue. Over the past 2 years 6 gatso's have been placed in the area where i live, out of these 6 only 2 are for road safety. One is directly outside a school and the other is at an accident black spot where at least one fatal RTC occurs each year not including the other injury RTC's at this location. The other 4 are useless and only catch out what are normally law abidding people. P.S. i would definately not verbally abuse a mobile speed camera operator as most are serving police officers and would probably arrest you for attempting to pervert the course of justice or obstructing a police officer. But i really know what you mean as we all feel the same here on this subject.

It is unfortunate but true to say that the best days of motoring are far behind us. I can remember the days when there were no speed cameras, no speed limits, and much less traffic on the roads.
Just a pity that the cars didn't have the umph that the have now. I predict that authorities in the not-too-distant future will utilise satellite mapping, in much the same way that a tracker system works, and insist on all car manufacturers fitting a "Safety" tracker in each car. Then no matter where you are driving, the big Eyeball in the Sky will detect your every move. Scary, but inevitable. ![]()
