Rb26dett using lots of oil?

Good morning
Yesterday I noticed that my oil was only half way up the stick so took it out for a run. This morning I checked the oil and it's only just on the stick. It's not leaking it so it's getting out anothe way. I know it's not good news so hit me with your thoughts.

Cheers Charlie

If the oil is disappearing so rapidly (0,5 liter over one drive) you should see blue smoke all the time or at least a load on WOT and otherwise she's just spitting it out somewhere you haven't noticed it

I've not noticed any blue smoke just that grey haze you get. Would a compression test help at all? Where it's parked there are no sighns of an oil leak this large.

have a look in your inter cooler for the oil ! take off the feed pipe that goes to the IN side of the inter cooler , happened to the one i brought , the turbo seals were gone and it filled the inter cooler , did smoke a bit though , worth a check , JUST AN IDEA !!

Right I've had a little look I've only taken in pipes off between the turbos and the intercooler, they are very clean not like any oil has run though.
Is this enough to say its not the turbo oil seals? Or do I really need to look inside the intercooler to see if any oil has pooled in there?

The oil pressure is still as good as its ever been (4@4k) 2 at idle. Not sure if that helps.

Is it worth doing a compression test and if so what info will this give me?

Charlie

fill it to dip stick level , do a tank of petrol and check again , keep an eye on oil pressure and boost level = to monitor all OK , comp test a good idea to exclude possible problems . If oil level has dropped after a tank of petrol is used , and there is no pool of oil or smoke from the exhaust then only other place for oil is in a catch tank or through the turbos and into cooler .

could just be 1 of those things where oil was low and second test was after a run and oil was still stuck to internals ??

Good afternoon

Ive filled up oil and fule and done about 25miles and used from full to half on the dip stick!
There is a blue hugh when pulling hard, when reving and a little on start up. I'm guessing rings? Turbo is pulling hard to max boost and no oil in intercooler piping. Oil pressure is still good but it's burning it some place? If I did a compression test would this point towards the rings?

if its spitting from the dip stick then you may have more compression in the sump than the cylinders , so rings it is !! do a compression test to make sure .

sorry m8 , but worth doing for the smile the car brings , like having a kid = pisses you of for months but dose one cool thing and all is forgotten

Compression test, would tell you if the valves are seating correctly. Not really good for the rings, as you could have good compression, but a broken oil scraper ring etc etc.

Compresion Test
Leakage Test Make sure on the leakage test your putting 60/100 psi into engine, and have a listen yo may be able to hear were the pressure going.

Also Get someone to follow you to no exact wens it smoking.
All this will give you a good indication.
