Nitrogen Fill

With a wodge of cash in my bank just aching to be used properly, my search for a GTR is finally underway (5 years since I sat in one in the Nissan Boutique in Ghinza Tokyo as I was living there when they were launched) and while that is happening I am scouring this amazingly informative site gathering as much information about these awesome machines - the downside of that is it is making the search/buy lag painfull!

Have many many questions but I'll start with this one (I did try a search but couldn't find precisely the information I'm looking for).

So, are ALL GTR tyres inflated using nitrogen? I understand the physics behind this but in reality has anyone simply used good old normal air?

If nitrogen filled how do you guys cope with the small pressure adjustments that must surely be needed? Are nitrogen filling outlets readily available?

Thanks for reading!

David

Hi David

Normal air is almost 80% nitrogen, don't sweat it too much would be my advice...

Hi David,

I just bought a GT-R and checked the pressures this morning. Small differences between all four. I don't intend to use nitrogen. I just make a point of checking pressures weekly for road use.

For track use, worth checking prior to and after warm up. Personally I think nitrogen is a waste of time and money (unless you get it free and it is easily available).

As another member on here eloquently put it, nobody considers the risks of filling your tyres with nitrogen. E.g. If you are chased by baddies and you end up in a river, you won't be able to use the tyre gas to breathe under water!

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I spilt some snake oil inside my engine bay the other day. Would I be OK washing it off with ordinary water or would a more specialised cleaner such as dihydrogen monoxide be better?

Jeez Tazz, dont mess with that stuff.

That dihydrogen monoxide stuff is evil. Corrodes metal, dissolves all kinds of things, even frizzes a woman's hair.

And it's lethal even in small quantities.

I've heard 3 inches is enough to kill a man.

"Slippery" is the term I would use to describe anyone selling it.

N2 readilly available from places like kwik fit in addition to HPC's , and unlike normal compressed air does not have any water in it which is unstable and can corrode your alloys , amongst other things ( hey if it's good enough for F1 it's good enough for me ).

As for top up's , I don't know if it down to N2 or not but I see little drop off anyway - if it helps you can check the pressures via the VDU on the move .
