Borg Warner EFR 9180

I'm thinking of getting a 9180 for my rb30 but it looks like I will have to wait until September/October to get one......

Yea I'm sure it will be worth the wait, still waiting on a price though.
It's either that turbo or a forced performance HTA3794....

I have a 8374 waiting to go on my RB30 but would love to upgrade to a 9180 before even trying the 8374. Too bad Honda's indy car team has all of them

Hmm .. Precision anyone ? I'm probably going for one to my RB30 ..

Why do you guys go for big turbos internally wastegated and with bov included ? I prefer keep the things simple , the only good upgrades for BW turbos are those speed sensors , just my point of view .

I would like to read different oppinions though
Thanks

You just contradicted yourself!

That's the whole idea of the BW EFR with the internal WG......You don't need two wastegates and all the piping involved with them or the external BOV with all the recirc pipes, and it even has the boost controller on it so the hoses are very short too.
It has simplified a lot of my engine bay, Great design!

By your pooint of view , yeah I did contradicted myself ..

You're right , but external wastegates , bov , and 2 more dump pipes aren't such a big head ache .. And to complete that , everyone with this level of preparation on an engine , certainly has a boost controller .
I talked about precision turbos for those who look for making that amount of power on a budget , like the comparison of the same turbo gains for the ball bearing one , and the other , the price doesn't seem to justify that ..

Don't see the point of spending something like $900 to spool a litle bit faster , but my car purposes are having fun , fun and more fun not to race anyone or dyno competitions .

Don't get mad at me .. ehhe There are a lot of great options available , after you define your budget , search on the different brands , sure there are a lot of turbos identical , from different manufacters .

Sorry for my english , it's a bit rusty but i'm trying m best

Sorry but you just contradicted yourself again.

Why spend 900 dollars extra on the AFR? Because your saving 1200 dollars on External wastegates therefore it's actually cheaper (with better spool) And yes external gates are a pain in the ass, if you think there easy to package you haven't tried to route pipework to from them with a 3.5 inch down pipe in the way. None of your argument makes sense to me and it's not your English.

(2) Tial 44mm wastegates = $700
(1) Tial 50mm BOV = $260
(2) wastegate ports on twinscroll manifold = $400
(2) fabricated dump tubes = $400
(1) 3 port boost solenoid = $50

these are the items which sub boy's car did not require. It is also less weight

a big part of having fun with a turbo car is that turbocharger itself is durable and reliable. This is why the borgwarner airwerks turbos come highly recommended, and at a lower pricepoint than EFR. They are easily the most durable turbos from any mfg and it does not have any of the extra features you are not interested in. precision turbo reliability and their mfg processes has been a big issue

What are your intentions with them? Those FP3794R turbos are making some absolutely mental figures with pretty impressive powerbands where people are venturing far enough to get their potential out. One of the Oz Mitsi tuners have just gone over 930whp with one on E85, did an 8.48 @ 171mph with their first outing with the thing!

It would be interesting to see what the 3794R would drive like on an RB, for some reason basically no-one seems to have tried them on a 6cyl - I guess the Supra/Skyline guys have all been hooked on the Precision and Garrett turbos.
