Don't know whether to be Happy or Sad

Having joined this forum quite some time ago, I have always anticipated that I would hopefully have the pleasure in owning the superb r35 after watching Top Gear . That soon is going to turn to reality as I have just concluded the final touches in r35 ownership. Just spent the best part of 2.5k+ on insurance ( daylight robbery i know !) and I will be picking up the car tomorrow.

It is a 09 DMG Black Edition (fastest colour) with the daytime running lights which im not too sure on yet. Whilst im ecstatic with the impending car purchase I simply cant enjoy it as I will be putting my dog Rocky to sleep in the upcoming days. He was diagnosed and started showing signs of hip dysplasia this February and his condition has rapidly deteriorated over the last few months.

Being a 7yr + rottweiler I guess he always had the possibility of hip dysplasia but having had the vet visit my house today to have a final inspection he concluded that there could be a possiblity of a motor neurone degeneration as well.

So yeh , sorry for the essay but I dont whether to jump for joy or cry in sorrow. Appointment booked on Thursday 1-1.30pm to have my dog put to sleep at my house. Going to spoil the bugger rotten meanwhile.

Time the car to come after you have to say goodbye to Rocky, maybe it will distract you for long enough that the initial shock will go away.

and why are you paying £2500 in insurance?

Re: Rocky.
You are doing the right thing - had two german shepherds with hip problems. First time round I tried everything to delay him having to go, ultimately waited to long I suspect. Second time I made sure the decsion was made when the dog still had some quality of life and I knew was not suffering too badly.

As you say you can spoil him rotten before he heads to the vets.

Perhaps you should name the car after the dog? Fitting name for anyones GTR!

Sorry to hear about Rocky (that is my cat's name). Great news on the GT-R although your insurance is obscenely expensive. I thought mine was bad (1k, 35yo, London too). Have you tried the usual suspects like admiral, adrian flux and competition car insurance.

The latter are rated highly (even though they couldn't be bothered to return my call promptly on several occasions which is why I chose admiral).

Im with cci as they were the only ones who could insure me with a decent excess. Sky insurance wouldn't touch me and neither would any of the insurance companies mentioned above. I just got tired ringing around and being told im uninsurable because of the car. Price comparison sites were coming in with 3k with 3k excess!

Sorry to hear about Rocky, i had to put my dog down 6months ago so i sympathise with your position.

Congrats on the GTR, 2.9k is pretty punchy for insurance though, i was paying less than that when i first purchased my GTR 3 years ago at the tender age of 24, London based too...

It's sad to hear, but my GSD suffers with this. Very different dog over the last few years still very mobile and no pain, but she has bad days where she limps around and whimpers in pain.

You're making the right decision

Mate, I feel your pain. I've been through this several times with my dogs, there's no worse feeling for a dog lover. The last time it happened, someone told me I'd given that dog the best ever life anyone could have, which helped, I'll bet that's true of you too. Give him as much cheese and sausage as he wants! You will meet again.

Please enjoy the car when you can, they're awesome, like Rocky.
