Foreign Lorry Drivers !!!!

Was travelling at 38mph in right hand lane off dual carriageway,8am this morning, road very busy, when a left hand drive articulated lorry, driven by a slovakian decided to come over into my lane, luckily i was in my p38 rangerover and not my r35,dented and scraped rear wing ,rear door and rear wheel, also plastic mouldings. The driver conveniently could not speak english,so i called for the police who were very helpful in getting his details for me,Now im in a dilema whether to claim through insurance because i have multi car with Admiral which includes the r35.Even if i do recieve money to repair damage ive been told by a 'few' that my insurance will be loaded next renewal!!Cost to repair is approx £400,would 'you' make a claim or shell out? Bloody insurers have you always !!!

I'm with Andy. £400 quid ain't a lot in the grand scheme of things vs unknown cost of insurance getting loaded for however many years.

This has happened to me, but why do you get penalised when it's not your fault?

Because insurance companies don't like to lose in the long term.

No fault claims are not counted, so there should be no extra cost.

I have always tried to pay these. Can't remember when I actually last claimed. Still my premiums go up. They get you going and they get you coming. How far do you have to bend over for them? Grrr....

Agree with Rarche2002. I hate insurance companies.

I would claim. It's his insurance that should be meeting the cost of the claim so should not affect your premium. If your insurer ends up paying because they can't recover from the lorry drivers policy then it would still be unreasonable to rate your premium for a no fault claim.

What happens quite often is liablilty is disputed. The lorry driver may claim you clipped his vehicle to his employer.
Do you have a good independent witness or (even better) a driver recorder with video footage?

This means the claim is not settled on a non fault basis by the time your renewal comes round and then your premium goes up because you have a claim pending that's recorded on the computer.

If the other party is eventually found liable you don't get any money back.

I have about 100 company vehicles on a fleet policy and insurance does my head in!
Even though I get more involced in claims and have more info on the way it works that joe public, you still come to the conclusion that you get shafted.
Last year my premium went up 10k because of "pending claim" for 50k, 42k of which is for hire of a motorbike to replace one that was valued at £500. We are fighting it in court. The guy never even fell off the bike!
But it's still a pending claim and it's still put my premium up.

Don't claim! Insurance companies will always ask if you had an accident in the last 3 or 5 years. Who was at fault doesn't matter!

You will pay more in premiums by year 2, maybe even year 1.

Take it on the chin and move on...

A renewal seems (from personal experience) to not increase. What happens in the year after??

Try getting a quote online, you have to declare the accident and you will be charged more as statistically you are a greater risk of having further accidents.
