Let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time, Jim has an ipod, an iBook, several hundred CDs and a wife. Jim rips his CDs into his iTunes library on the iBook for his own use, then loading the same onto the iPod which is sync'd with the iBook's iTunes. Jim has never registered his iTunes account online as has never bought music online - he has only ever used it for copying his own music CDs onto his iPod. So Jim now has several thousand songs on his iPod, and is happy. Fast forward a little while. Jim's wife has turned out to be a raging freakzoid and they have got divorced. When sorting out "her stuff", hundreds of CDs (thousands of pounds worth) mysteriously vanished into her moving boxes and disappeared with her. Not long after Jim's iBook promptly dies, quite permanently. The Apple genius bods at the Apple shop had a look and just shook their heads. It ain't coming back. So Jim now only has his music on his iPod. No backup. No original CDs anymore. Jim installs iTunes on his Windows laptop and tries to connect his iPod, hoping he can back up the music to the new laptop. No. All the new laptop will offer him is the option to format the iPod. Errrrrr, no thanks. Anyone got any ideas how I can get my iPod working with a new laptop/iTunes and backup my music, as well as adding new music, without nuking the existing music files already on there?? ![]()

Bit of a sad tale. I did find a program a few years ago which rips music from your iPod without iTunes and then lets you have it just as normal music again.
I will have a look later on tonight to see if I can find that program again.

What you need to do is download an iPod to pc ripping software, there's millions of them online that'll take everything off the iPod, you can also view the iPod as an administrator and show hidden files and it should show your music, safest way is the software though

Despite being an apple whore that is one of the many reasons I HATE iTunes ...
