10th Anniversary Asda Charity day at Bruntingthorpe

What a great day with a fantastic amount of money raised.
Everyone had fun and apart from the queues and a few logistical issues, the GTROC can be proud of what we achieved and to see the delight on the faces of the passengers when we gave them a ride of a lifetime was a picture.

For me as always, the kids did it for me, and I don't deny the odd tear with some of the terminally ill children that actually hugged me after the laps.

A few mechanical issues that Rog Burgess sorted out for me via Iain Litchfield via cables and laptops, but I was delighted with the performance of the car and although I have gone through another set of tyres and destroyed my brakes - so what.

To cap the day off, Jake Hill (the GTR Gimp and Trackday coach) won his first Ginetta Supercup G55 race today, from the front row, and will be starting the second race tomorrow from pole position. All live on ITV4 from 11am tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the organisation etc
John

Hear hear John,

Echo that - GTR brings a ton of emotions but I would agree a massive lump in the throat when the kids were grinning and couldn't thank you enough.

You could always do more laps for the cause and next year should be even better. Am booked in already and had a long chat to one of the organisers (Chris) at the end who passed on his heartfelt thanks to the drivers and all those who turned out to help manage the massive queue of people wanting to ride with the GTROC.

Well done to Malc and Dave W for organising it all and here's to next year. And well done Jake!

A huge thank you team GTROC at On-Your-Marks. Everyone pulled together to get the very best we could from the day.

Unusually high levels of traffic meant drivers simply could not get out on track as quickly as we would have liked, this affected all the teams but even more so those teams furthest from the circuit start line such as ourselves.

The organisers were incredibly grateful for our efforts and in speaking to them they acknowledged that they may perhaps have simply had too much going on today. Too many stoppages for aircraft, lorry and other vehicle movements and perhaps too many club gates.

We were once again extremely popular from the moment the track opened albeit later than scheduled. At the start of the lunchbreak we had 30 to 40 people in the queue. We therefore adopted a system of allowing people to sign up and being given an approximate time to return this was much appreciated by passengers.

We had our allotted number of cars, and at times more.. on track throughout the day with all of the marques being fully utilised by eager passengers. As the afternoon progressed and some other teams became quieter our drivers were able to take advantage of a smaller queue and put on a fantastic effort right up to the cut off at 5pm

Special thank you's to.. Well.. honestly, everyone involved today. Our fantastic drivers, all those who helped with loading the passengers and running the desk.

Our total for the day was 1205.00GBP

We were just pipped by the Subarus who's total included a generous single donation.

Thank you again all those who supported the event £1205.00 raised will make a huge difference.

Absolutely fantastic day.
Can't believe how much harder this year was than previous so my hat goes off to how well we managed the club.
Brilliant turn out of drivers.
Everyone who went out in my car was impressed.
Really enjoyed Friday night.
I don't get to do much with the club these days and this weekend had reminded me what a great club I am part of.
Next year

Just a note. For the first time I made it to the rally cars (part of their track ran past turns 1 and 2 of our track. Ten minute queue and then got into the next rally car (was not allowed to pick the car ) and was lucky to get a Lotus sunbeam that spent most of its time sideways and spun twice. Driver gave it 100%. Best pax ride I have ever had. Well worth the walk.

Top job Dave, thanks for all your support

Friday night was fun and good to all be together around one table. I thought the carvery and buffet was pretty good overall and very good value.

Yes the carvery was decent after all and at £15 a serving, good value. Next year they might add beef too

A great day and plenty of cars to support the 6 track lanyards our club had; I found myself talking to punters and let them sit in the car, have a play with the engine on and answer all their questions. As a by-product, I think we do a fantastic job to win new sales for NMGB!!!

The main thing is the fun it brings to the adults and their children; the event gives them a real buzz and together with the lifetime wishes for the ill children make the day totally worthwhile.

Great day, great club, great people. What more could we want? Top banana

4th time for me and another great day out.

Everyone I took out asked to be driven super quick and thats what they got.
Every one of them new the GTR was where it was at. One woman said she had tingles down her spine!!

Tyres are now nicely filed on the outside edge and even the AP front discs have started to craze but who cares!

2 highlights for me were blasting up the straight as the Vulcan was coming in. It was bang in line with the runway and heading straight at me at one point i was starting to wonder if it was going to land on me...

Sally and I had a go on the back of the trike with the disabled guy driving that we met in the bar. He came into the 180 degree bend at 120 mph was quite butt clenching...

Well done to everyone who helped to organise this. In the queue I had a long chat with a lady who thought the drivers or the club were funded in some way.
Maybe we should put up a notice at the gate to say that 100% of the money goes to charity and no body wether driving or organising takes any money.

Paul I'm guessing you were in the 33 with CE28's on and a roll cage? If so, you had a massive grin on your face the whole day as well after taking passengers out which was awesome, love that 33 of yours and I need to be taken for a spin in it next year! A lot of people said how fast your car was

Now then JF, what happened to my pen that I lent you and I said to make sure I got it back???

A good day overall with the afternoon improving (looked like less trucks were running), the Subarus looked very smart as we pulled into the first bays and appears to be very well organised, but I think I saw only one on track all day and I spent 5 hours on circuit!

I had a chat to organisers at end (really nice guys) and P1 Crew won't be nicking our bays next year! Next year we know we can setup night before so be ready to go and 9.30 AM start! Hope it will be like the afternoon session all day! Just got home and still buzzing - re bedded brakes and all seems ok (very grumbly after event) and tyres still have a tiny bit of life!!

Hi all - great day yesterday! Here's a quick in-car video from yesterday for those that haven't been there before to show the layout:-

Bruntingthorpe - YouTube

One thing. I don't want to be a kill-joy, but since driving home yesterday there's been something on my mind and I'm sorry but I really need to air it, so here goes!

Some folk there yesterday were claiming quite outrageous speeds on the final straight (in excess of 180mph). In my opinion that's WAY too fast for a day when you have the public in your car. In fact, I would never attempt 180mph on that particular circuit layout full stop. I only say this to avert the potential danger of someone trying to emulate 180mph next year. You may well get there, but whether you stop in time before you run out of road is another question. The top speed adds nothing to the passenger enjoyment, and each single mph increases the risk. Drive as fast as you are truly comfortable, then slow down. Saves brakes, and takes away risk. If you don't believe me about the risks just google what happened to a Lamborghini driver and his son at Woodford aerodrome in June this year.....

Sorry if this sounds negative, but those of you who know me know that I have been involved in Motorsport for a long time (I am an ARDS level A instructor) and have seen first hand what can go wrong. Let's make sure we keep our presence at Bruntingthorpe as fun, AND SAFE, as possible!!
