ATS
I got one for my R33 through Newera Parts and it works really well... a little too well. I got to the point that I missed the noise so its currently out for a while. My car is highly tuned and drones between 2500-3000 rpm, right where I cruise in 5th gear at 70-mph. With the ATS in place I can't hear the exhaust at all until it opens up around 4500-rpm. In fact, until it opens up, all I hear is the intake/turbo noise. The first time I drove with it in I felt exactly the same way after I had my dog neutered. The car sounds like a Maxima.
It's easily 15-db quieter inside the cabin according to my iPhone decibel meter. When it reaches higher revs and the ATS opens up, you will certainly know it.... the sound goes back to the un-silenced levels. As far as power, at full throttle I can't tell a difference, but the turbo doesn't hit as early. There are compromises though. Throttle responce is slower at low RPM, and it takes about 300-rpm more to spool the turbo than when its out. Also I notice my EGT's are 50-100-C higher with the ATS in before it opens up, but at High RPM when it's open they are exactly the same. Also the installation was a bit of a hassle. I eventually found that the lip of the ATS flared by about .015" so it wouldn't go all the way in. I had to use a flapper wheel and dremmel tool to sand it down. I also had to prep the inside of the exhaust to take away any high spots. It goes in pretty smoothly now, but the tolerance is such that I have to use a wire brush to remove the carbon build up to get it in and out. I have a machine shop at work so it made it easier, but when it was all said and done, I probably could have gotten done with sand paper... it just took some time to figure out where it was catching. All in all its a great compromise to changing your exhaust. After driving with it for a while my exhaust doesn't seem that loud to me, so I'm going to leave it out unless I'm driving a long distance. There are some videos on Youtube comparing pre and post install on a Subaru with the Apexi exhaust, but honestly I don't think it does the silence justice. I was shocked at how quiet it makes the car at low RPM. I hope this helps. If you have any questions send me a PM. I could try to post a video, but they just don't do it justice.

active silencer
Bought one for my car but my rear box is too big. it does quieten it down a fair bit and when you hit the loud pedal it opens up and allows additional flow out.
Im selling mine if your interested. Le Freak

No they open automatically when the pressure in the exhaust buiilds to a certain point. its spring operated. mine is 120mm i think but has the optional ring which fits around it to fit wider rear boxes.
