Miguel has a good point about the octane booster, I did a bike trip to Spain a few years ago and me mates bike ran crap on the fuel over there (it looked a green colour in the tank).
Don't forget your GB sticker.

Enjoy the trip
i did thought the same in take the diesel car but i both the car a year a go and i only did 250 miles
i need to take that car out off jersey were the limit of the roads is 40mph

Austria and back - with a bit of running around ( casino and bars ) with an RB25DET cost me £900 in V-power . Ring ate more fuel ! but £900 to Austria and back to Oxfordshire !

That should help make your mind up ...

If you get stopped for speeding, fala so Portugues.
They might let you off because of frustration with communication...

Or then again, floor it - they can't trace your number!

with regard to the high viz, I believe you need to carry enough to cover the seating capcity of your car, not just one and not even just the amount for the passengers in the vehicle

Toured France in June.
Road from north to south to montpeliier was epic.....especially the south side of the mini mountains if you head to the north i.e. Sete / Beziers way.
Picked up a breath test kit on the ferry for about a fiver, the rest of my cars breakdown and first aid kit covered the rest ie high viz vest , triangle etc.
If in doubt ask on the ferry as they use any excuse to sell and all they farmed on me was the breath test kit.

Saw no police and sat with freindly french bloke with radar detector at fun speeds most of the way with a few high speed bursts.

Enjoy.....motorways with hairpins...awesome journey i rate very high!

You probably can and this is probably the law but people are making out like the french police sit every 100mtrs waiting for dumb tourists to speed, use their sat nav with cameras etc etc when in my experience, over the month i was there, i never saw a single police car on the motorways or otherwise. The only place i saw police was in the city`s.

I drove from Callais, right down to the south coast and back again with several detours inbetween whilst touring and never had any issues. I didnt have my GB badge on most of the time and still didnt get any hassle.

What i will say is watch out for the French drivers though. On the motorway they do just drift from lanes , probably because they all sit strictly to the speed limit and dont expect anyone to overtake. It did remove my foot from the pedal every time i came up behimd traffic as you knew someone was going to drift all over the place.

As for the vehicle coming from the right on a side road to main road having right of way....total rubbish. Thats definately the case in Germany ans Holland but in France, the road markings dictate. On most roads its exactly the same as us else with the vehicle on the main road having priority. In some small villages and towns . i did see the signs or road markings on a small minority of roads where the vehicle entering the main road, had priority but it was mainly in 30kmh restricted roads anyway i.e. schools, town centres .

Seriously , setting aside the above, it has so far been one of the best driving experiences of my life and taking into account i live in Scotland with some fantastic deserted roads, i dont think you can underestimate that sentence.

nice rite up jason
to be honest 2 years ago i went in my old little civic from st malo to paris and i haven't seen one police car or any cameras, but apparently things change so much you need take most of the precautions.i now the civic doesn't call so much the attention in fact no comparison to the R34-gtr (we all know skylines is a police magnet).
i reckon if i stick to the speed limits it should be ok.
i just might not stick the GB badge i hate to see that on cars
two weeks more is not long know

French police doesn't even know what a skyline is ! Quite frankly, I don't know if you even have to buy the triangle and such.

I have never carried any and get stop from time to time ; but nobody checks.
