Replacing F&R R33 Speakers

If I have time this weekend I will crack on with fitting the new speakers - rear 6.5" coaxials and front 6.5" components. Few questions

Is this an easy job or a pain in the arse?
Anything I need to source before starting (can't stand not having everything I need!)
What needs to come out of the back to access the pods?
Is there a best method to removing doorcards?

Cheers!

I'm interested in changing also. I have upgraded front speaks (came with the car) but still pretty useless. From reading threads on here I think the key is building MDF mounting brackets behind the door cards at the front as the standard area is too weak.

So add MDF to your list!

So can you not just screw an MDF ring to the current holes and then the new speakers into the MDF?

Just gone for standard size rear speakers - are they easy to access or to I have to remove half the interior?

Are you me 6 years ago? Lol.

Rear seats are fiddly to get out, essentially to do rear speakers.

There's only 4 bolts but it's just a bugger. The bench is held in by witchcraft and that needs to come out before the back. The bolts for the back peice are tucked down the sides near where the seatblets go.

Whilst they are out, upgrade your speaker wire/run audio cables and signal live in case you ever want subs or amps. That's if you are in fact me. lol

The edges of the front speaker mounts are the ends of the door pockets! You will need to make an mdf mount and then glue the Plastic ends of the old units to this also the rears are a right pain again I made mdf mounts due to the depth of the new speakers they would touch the battery I then had to cut out the shelf a bit to keep the old grills

Easy way to get the rear bench seat of is undo the two bolts the stick a very large screwdriver In the middle of the metal hoop and lever up then repeat the other side

Cheers guys - so along with the stereo fitting sounds like even this minor job on the skyline is a pain in the arse. I've got plenty of MDF and the tools needed so will just crack on tomo.

Got the fronts sorted. Made life harder by fitting components (well takes longer it's not hard).

So first of all was planning my MDF ring bits and thought maybe can trim the actual speaker edge as the mounting holes fit without needing to trim. Got an awesome sanding disc so marked it up against old speakers and got sanding which did the job in no time. So now have 6.5" speakers in the fronts. I am using Alpine SPG series speakers and the edge is a tough plastic - prob not possible it metal edge. Only minor prob was mounting the crossovers, found the best place to be in front of speaker (to the left as you look at it) on the drivers side. For the passenger side I mounted it on the plastic speaker frame, filed down one of the ridges, job done.

I done this a while ago from what I remember, I'm using alpine type s speakers for the front it's a direct fit but mine used a set of tweeters too which I drilled into the door car with the drill bit provided the backs were also a straight fit
