I thought 7s were GTSSs

 

Similar, but slightly smaller i believe.
The -9's are the equivalent to GTSS's.

Not sure which one i should go for

 

I have -7s and the car is tuned for response and mid range rather than top end power.

Abbey adjusted the cams (standard) so max power is around 390 at the hubs at 6300rpm or so with boost dropping to 1.2 bar from a peak of 1.4. The power drops off quite quickly, so will be fitting Tomei type b cams next year.

-9s are a good alternative as they can run 1.4 bar more efficiently due to design, but, the reason people seem to go -7 or -5 is price - -9s are expensive compared to the others (last time I looked) and don't come with actuators fitted.

Leo (austriangtr from memory) has -9s or you could go onto skylinesaus, as a lot of the aussies seem to fit -9s, so you could get some opinions on that forum.

 

I can get -9's for the same price as -7's with actuators, Have done some searching on the skylineaus forum but couldn't find anything discussing a direct comparison.

 

-9's and -7's have got the same response.. but -9's have got a better top end.. they're more efficent than -7's.. so I recommend buying -9's (gt2859r -9)

 

I forgot: gt2860r -9's are other turbos (laggier than gt2860r -5's)
The equivalent of hks gt-ss are gt2859r -9's: hks are identical but with strenghted actuators!

 

What do you mean when you say lag?

The rpm when boost is generated or the time to come back on boost after a gear change.

Of course! gt2859r-9's have more top end than gt2860r-7's, and the response is the same! (maybe -7's spool up 100 rpm in advance of -9's)
However, if you mean the gt2860r-9's, they create more power at high revs (more than gt2860r-5's) but they are very slow to load compared to -7's (there are more than 1000 rpm difference to load boost).

 

Was referring to the 2859-9, part number 70160-9 from memory.

So that settles it I'm getting the above

-5s would be no fun on the street, you would be breaking the speed limit to have any fun

Am i better off buying the -9's and getting different actuators or are the provided actuators suitable?

I think you better off contacting turbo dynamics Turbo Dynamics: the Turbocharger Specialists and asking them. They have these at very good prices last time I looked, better than I've ever seen them!

 

I think the actuators that provides garrett are good... but if you want to make a preparation in detail, I'd take the hks actuators

What's the max boost and roughly max power of the 5s 7s and 9s

I ask as my turbos are supposedly 7s but with a 62trim compresser and I think that's the same as the 5s. So mine is a mix of 5s and 7s

 

Compressor trim 62 = -5s (about 640ps)..boost range is 1-1,5bar (very efficients). The compressor map indicate: max boost more than 2bar
-9s ---> 56trim
-7s ---> 55trim

 

I'm currently running 0.85 bar,so 1.2 should be safe and give me a good bit more power. Have u ever heard of a mix turbo of 7s and 5s

 

no..but it could be a good idea! I've never heard about a mix like that..

Inducer ***8211; 47.2mm
Exducer ***8211; 60.0mm
No of blades ***8211; 8
Trim ***8211; 62.

I actually (strangely) don***8217;t have any data for the turbine wheel sizes, but this is a bit less critical and will define when you get the power rather than how much power you will achieve, so all being equal, you should be able to see similar figures to the -5 i.e. 640bhp from your pair. (ish!)

 

What's wrong with the 5s that no1 recommends them? Do they give less power than the 7s?

 

i run 2859-r,s brilliant track turbo. 1.1 bar 390 @ the hubs.. 1.6 bar 500 @the hubs. full boost by 3400 rpm..engine is forged pistons, std rods prepped and all the upgraded bits lol.

I've seen that video lots of times on YouTube what a machine

 

the 2859r has been replaced by the 2860-9. i know i blew one up and replaced just one the 2860-9 is the same core as the 2859r.. great for track use and can handle 1.6 bar all day long..

 

Do u know how much the 5s and 7s can handle?
