Knight-Racer GTR 750RS Engine Build by SVM

Some of you might have seen the start of Knight-Racer's R35 GTR's from the other thread.

This is purely about the engine build by SVM and I must say I'm every bit pleased with the end results and service throughout!

A few months back I called Severn Valley Motorsport and started to discuss various options for my recently acquired R35 GTR. The car was already running a SVM 650R state of tune but with the fact that this was going to be my new demo car I felt that I wanted it to be a little more special and bespoke to me.

After much discussion and 100's of emails with Kev & Amar, we decided on a 750RS package - something designed specifically for me. We decided to go with a Brand New block all pre-built by SVM, this way it allowed for the fastest turnaround time (especially as I use the car on a regular basis) so it was a simple exchange of engines. Yes, its not quite as cost effective in the real world, but I fancied the idea of having a new block & components.

After having all my newest Carbon Products installed on the car giving it that ever so aggressive road presence, I knew it needed as much power to match but still maintaining it's fast road handling and capability. But as with everything in life I had a budget in mind and wanted to get the most out of it.

Next thing was a finalising phone conversation with Amar and the SVM transporter was here and ready to collect my baby....

Quick Spec List:
- Brand new engine block
- SVM forged piston set
- ARP 3.5 Rod Bolts
- HKS Intercooler Piping
- SVM Stage 2 Turbos - ball beaing cores, CNC machined turbine housing
- Billet Aluminium Actuators
- Motorsport 1050cc Injectors
- Twin 400LPH Fuel Pumps
- GTC 14 plate clutch system
- SVM 3 mechanical circlip upgrade
- SVM signature bumper intake system
- Gearbox Cooler
- Custom Cobb Tune by Ben at GTC

and what I already had before the build:
- ID 1000 injectors
- GTC 76mm Intakes and Filters
- GTC Downpipes, Y-Pipe
- Whiteline Front and Rear Sway Bars
- BC Racing fully adjustable coilovers

To go on next:
- SVM Marston Intercooler
- GTC 102 Titan Full Exhaust System

Progress photos:

Thanks.

I'm not really a massive fan of straight line racing and top speed runs.... I was never going to build a car to compete with the big power boys! I wanted a car that has enough power for that, and also perform well and inialate anything in and out of roundabouts (reason I live in Milton Keynes i guess! lol.. and probably same reason why I go through brake pads so quickly!) and on track. I personally thought it was actually a very fast car when it was 650R (like stage 4), in and around town was awesome. Could properly nail it off roundabouts and still maintain full grip (unless you deliberately knock the steering for a cheeky slide :P).

Now it's mental! Going to ask if there's a way to have the traction in "R" mode automatically from ignition start cos i'll end up breaking that switch soon! as its absolutely no point driving with traction on. Got some serious kick to it now! I have to try very hard not to powerslide it out of bends! lol Good thing about these turbos that Kev's installed is that they are modified and bored out stock units... most importantly there is no lag. They are very responsive like stock turbos but with MORE boost and MORE air flow! Rod's being forged means that Ben doesn't need to cap the torque on the map either!

Are you sure this was a 650R conversion before hand, as it should have already included the 1050cc injectors - standard wont get you past 600.... (?)

Yes, it had 1000 ID's before... SVM have just launched a new injector with much better characteristics... so while we were at it! I wanted them installed too!

Albert, the build looks awesome, how do you find the overall drive, with the clutch etc. does it feel more "grabby"?

How long was the Breakin period for the new engine?

I've seen some positive results on another thread about the whifbitz cooler, when do u plan to fit it buddy? Will you be updating the throttle bodies to SVM 76mm also?

Thanks, the clutch doesnt bite as violently as you may expect, but it is noticeably stronger, I prefer it as it feels more capable to handle the power now. but dont forget I can adjust the touch points via the cobb anyway.

The overall normal driving doesnt feel any different to stock, but as soon as you want the power, its immediately available... and quite a lot of it! I dont feel any more lag compared to stock, which is exactly what I wanted. I think this will be optimal power i'll go with this car, any more will mean bigger turbos and I'll lose the driveability that I currently have with the car.

SVM did most of the running in for me, but i still gave it some easy driving in combo with the occasional power blasts for the first 800-1000 miles. Went back for a quick oil service and a few more map tweeks by Ben @ GTC. Runs sweet now. Just gotta watch my driving in and out of roundabouts as the car does skid sideways pretty easily... but doing that too much will knacker the front/rear diffs. Syvevs might be the next stage abit futher in the future to get me the maximum grip I need for my style of driving.

I have a Whifbitz intercooler on the way, so that will be next. Followed by a 102 Titan to release a few more horses

Looking good that is.

Surprised you haven't got your splitter with the brake cooling ducts on, or are there other ducts fitted??
