Wanadoo Broadband - Utterly Useless
Having been subscribed with a 512k connection for 2 months with Wanadoo, I recommended the service to a friend of mine who lives nearby... I go round his house and set it up for him, and for some reason he has a 1mb connection. I then go onto the Wanadoo website and realise that they are now offering 1mb connections to all new customers for £17.99 a month, so I call up their Broadband Support team to ask for my connection to be upgraded:
"Hi, I've been with you for 2 months on a 512k connection and would like it upgrading to 1mb please" "Erm... ok, can I have your phone number?" "Yes..." "The computer won't tell me whether or not your house is capable of taking a 1mb connection, because you're allready registered with us" "What?!" "It won't search your number" "Well that's pretty useless - what can I do then?" "Well, you can cancel your existing service, which will take 10 days, then you can call back and we'll do another search, and then you might be able to get 1mb, in which case we'll sign you back up, so that'll take another 10 days" "So I go without the internet for 20 days, that's the best you can do, and you're not even sure if I will be able to get a 1mb line at the end of it anyway?" "Yes" "Goodbye" Almost makes me miss NTL ![]()

Best thing to do here is look on the BT website to see if your number is enabled for broadband (obviously it is), but it tells you the speeds you can have.
But you can tell them (wanadoo) to just put the order for 1mb through - they will contact BT who will have to do a line test to see if 1mb is possible, then if its not you cant upgrade - simple as. But yeah - that is utter 5hite!!

You could have had as bad luck as I've had the past 2 days. 1) I'm not well at all .... got a flu type thing and I feel absolutely dreadful ! 2) My PC went completely potty ! XP Pro wouldn't shut down anymore (out of the blue) - was giving me exception errors. Used a few microsoft things - like rolling the PC back a few days to a known stable environment - didn't work ... used the Automated XP recovery thing ... killed my operating system completely.
Did an XP re-install on my smaller drive ... only to find that it would ONLY boot if I had the XP Pro cd in and the boot sequence had CD first. I did manage to backup must of my important stuff to a few DVD's while it was running like this. SO, had to wipe the smaller drive a second time ... everything was working great - and now every now and then I get a blue screen on start-up ... more exceptions. I have absolutely NO idea what's causing these problems. So, everything was fine until about 30 mins before midnight on the 31st Dec ... now, everythings gone a bit pete tong. Fenix - nice signature mate ![]()

Im with Vodaphone for my mobile,On a contract for 7 years now.
want to upgrade my mobile to one with Bluetooth. "£80 to you sir" But they are offering £50 to new customers. So im given the option of cancelling and then starting a new contract but i cannot keep my number (Who else will need it) or paying £80. I asked the women behind the till if its Vodaphones policy to look after new customers more than someone who has been with them for 7 years , i get a very blank look from her. So tomorrow i will cancel with Vodaphone and go somewhere else. None of these companys have any interest in looking after their customers.

Hodgie - call Vodafone directly and ask them for an upgrade, esle you'll take your business elsewhere. Everytime I've done that (with Voda) I get a much better handset than new customers get, plus they give me a reduced price tariff ![]()

Daz, what sound card is in there? I had some shutting-down problems with some XP/Creative drivers originally. Also, how old is the motherboard?
Btw, gave up with my DV card in the end and plonked a 1394 fw card in another slot and bingo Ken.

Ken - I'm running a creative soundblaster Live soundcard, a microstar motherboard and i'm also running a firewire card.
One thing i've have noticed is that my AEI USB to Fast Ethernet driver is NOT digitally assigned (or whatever the term they use is). There is NO other driver available for it. I'm tempted to buy an ethernet card and removed the USB adapter and then run a new driver ...

Daz, is the blaster using XP drivers or Creative ones? Some of the XP drivers don't work properly. Creative have an extensive list of driver package downloads on their website. Worth updating them even if it doesn't cure it.
The reason I mentioned motherboards is that, in the past, virtually all of the screwy/weird problems that I've encountered originated from successive m/boards, either breakdowns or on-board-driver conflicts with other hardware. Ken.

Cheers for the ideas Ken.
