I know what you mean!! engine made from butter!! still had fun in it when it was working!! a oil change every 3000-4000miles depending on how meny track days done!! (9 last year!! !!)

so what is the standard top end of the R34? i hear people say 155mph but then you get some saying 180+mph(pub talk??)

Also another problem with with the scooby is that i feel uneasy with the wife driving it!! with the car jakings etc!! are the skylines as bad as the scoobys or do they stand out too much for them!!

155 is the supposed limit for uk cars, this is a limiter that will not allow the revs the take you higher than whatever speed it is set to. Japanese cars are set to 112 mph.

when you delimit the car the top speed is only restricted by the length of the straight and the size of your nuts !!

you probably wont see much over 150 on a circuit though. you need to go to the autobahn to get some real top speed action.

if you are going to do track days a lot then the UK car would probably be a better bet as they have the oil coolers mounted on the as std.

you will also want to tweak it a bit to get the best from it on track.
I'd look for a stage 1 tuned Middlehurst car, I believe they still warranty this state of tune.

You can see what top speed I got in mine, then see what Guy got in his on my website, blowdog.com in the nurburgring video post.

Suffice to say, 180mph is not pub talk.

I'm not really surprised that the R34 can do it. In fact I believe that Andy Middlehurst (from Middlehurst Motorsport Nissan Dealeership) managed to get a tuned R33 GT-R up to 196 mph !!!

If you consider that I got to around 160 mph out of my last car on a trip to Germnay. (Based on Revs in 5th gear rather than speedo which had went cleanly 'off the clock' ...)

It was in a tuned (rolling road verified) 300bhp MR2 Turbo (1260kg's). The car still had more to give too but I didn't, I give in because it didn't feel 'comfortable' at that speed AT ALL, very bloody scary actually!! I think the gearing ratio's would have got me very soon anyway.

The Skyline always seems a lot more controlled and comfortable at high speed. I've heard stories that the M-Spec edition of the R34 GT-R (only available via importers or you can buy the suspension and retro fit it to uk cars for about 3k) has even better high speed stability for autoban blitzing... If you hit a bump in the GT-R R34's hard suspension at over 160mph you could change lanes, but not on the M-Spec suspension... (scary eh!!!)

The R33 Skyline that is known as the beast which is owned by Gary Passingham of GTART fame has been clocked through the timing lights at brunting thorpe (a runway which is about 2.5 miles long.)

the car was clocked at 211mph one way and 217 the other, they used the lower figure as the claim.

check out Gary's website by looking him up in the profiles section.

Dunno about top speed with normal gears yet but intend to explore the envelope !!

so what is the Rpm at 155mph?
would delimiting invailidate the warranty??

Any info on the R33 400R?? would it be any good compared to the R34?
they are aprox the same price so i take it that the R33 would be more of a investment then a daily transport!!

If you can afford it...

...buy the 400R - very car, and the only one in that fantastic colour too I believe.

No idea if delimiting an R34 would invalidate the warranty, why not call middlehurst and discuss warranty as I think it is different depending on the state of tune the car is in. That said from my brief experience of the skyline it has been more reliable than by scooby and I think that is something most owners would agree on

145mph is about 8000 rpm in 4th gear (r33)(both indicated on dials rather than verified). so 5th gear would probably have about 6500 or so at 155 ? not looking too hard at that sort of speed though !!

The R34 has a 6 speed box so I have no idea about that one.

The 400 R is a really good buy if you are planning to go down the modifying road. it has had a lot of parts put on in the fatory to give you a reliable 400 bhp for it's entire life. the list of parts on that car is incredible and would cost you a lot more to do it as an upgrade project. if you want a one off car (colour) and definately the best R33 400R in this country and probably Europe then get it.

By the way if you were to purchase the 400R then modify it more people would probably lynch you as it is a little piece of motoring history and as scarce as rocking horse shit !!

hope this helps.

Steve

Definitely.

If you buy the 400R, you should leave it untouched mod wise. By modding it you'd only be saying that you know better than Nismo. And no one knows better than Nismo Also, I suspect the 400R's 400 bhp is actually a lot more pokey than an equivalent ECU-only 400 bhp because of all the forged goodness.

Shin's 400R is the only champion blue 400R in existence as well, imagine owning a genuine factory one-off!

400R

Buy it and then bring it to JAE
If you think a normal GTR creates interest, then the 400R will create a lot more.
My favourite car on the PS2 btw.

Unhappy

i dont know!! as i said if i was to get the 400R it would be more of an investment!! i think cos of that i would not "push" it as hard!! with the R34 i would buy it more as a "car" !! and i also need to think on the long run wth would hold its value more??

champion blue is also a good colour!!(could of been the yellow )

God knows how i would get parts if it broke down!! !!

To be honest I would be surprised if the 400R wasn't a bag of nails really. It's got all those Nismo bits and pieces that most people wouldn't even look at getting until they were running 550 bhp+.. forged pistons, carbon propshaft, etc.

Hi Durzel,

Why would it be a bag of nails, I have had a good look at this car and it is the bollox !! If I had the money anywhere to be able to buy this car I would have it.

an absolute Gem ! if you get this car Chu you'll be the envy of a lot of people on this forum, and on the street.
