Yep, could be fuel dilution.

First I was using fully synthetic ELF 0W40, but now I am using MOTUL 300V Competition 10W50. It really makes a difference (much better!!).

Nissan recomend a 7.5w 30 oil for a standard BNR32. So I wouldn't go too far away from this. This is how I think of it. The thiner the oil, the easyer it is feed through your engine and the more oil you should have on your engine internals. The oil in your engine has to travel through little holes. Say you had a cup filled with oil. The cup has a hole in the bottom, the thiner the oil the more oil that will get through the hole. So I always try to stay close to what nissan recomend. That is how they designed the engine and they should know, as they have tested what was best. The next thing is different brand give different levels of protection for the same grade oil. That one I can not help you out with. But don't buy cheep oil. Stick with something you trust. I like mobil, pentrite and motul. Hope that helps

that's exactly the rationale behind me using 0W-20 oil. It's Motul 300V so it's damned pricey stuff. I don't run on the track and I've got an oil cooler so I've never been able to realy cook my oil up to 90~100 degrees. During summer though I'll move to a 40 weight oil - but I'm going to experiment with placing an electric fan on my oil radiator, and add some inlet and outlet ducting and see how long into the spring I can run the thin stuff.

I was told (so it's not me and I'm not to be quoted on this but) that your oil should be the same temp as your water 90deg. I was told this by someone who set up race cars as well as street cars.

I've gotten 90 degrees oil temp during the summer, but I don't think I've ever gotten my water that hot, except with the A/C on and not moving in an August traffic jam....and I have a stock radiator!

These cars in unmodified form on the road should run happily on a 5w-30 or 5w-40 however there are many that need something a bit more beefy due to modifications and or use/abuse!
You know that you can always contact us for the best advice ![]() Cheers Simon
