6 speed getrag
Owned my r43 gtr vspec for about a year now and lm really unhappy with the gearbox. Its fine when cold but when it heats up it has a progressive whining noise and keeps on jumping out of second. Didnt crunch in the beginning but has now a few times. Want to rebuld the box but nobody wants t touch it locally. Managed to find a company in milton keynes known as compotition transmissions, web sight Gearboxman - home. he has said he can do it but he might have to source the parts from other gearboxes. ( nissan do not provide parts for gearbox) Im abit unsure and was wondering if anyone has had the same problems with the 6 speed getrag and has anyone heard of the gearboxman. please could somone advise and point me in the right direction. thanxs

???????? you have to be in neutral to be able to take your foot off the clutch you have to take your foot off the clutch WHILST blipping the throttle, in order to match transmission speed to the gear you are about to drop into to explain: in fourth gear, approaching third gear corner begin braking (right foot) clutch in (left foot), select neutral, still braking (right foot) release clutch (left foot), transmission now in neutral, still braking (right foot) now continue braking with inside of right foot and blip the throttle with the outside of the same foot (heel'n'toeing) clutch in (left), into gear, release clutch as revs match road speed (still braking) release brakes, turn in gav |

Surely to double declutch you must double declutch.
Heel and toe-ing is (imho) different; blipping the throttle on down changes to make it smoother etc. and doesn't require double declutching. Of course you can (do) blip the throttle when double declutching. Does that make any sense? ![]() |

first time i had circuit instruction the instructor kept peering over to see what my left foot (wasn't) doing as i blipped the throttle while on the brakes it's not just the engine, but the entire drivetrain needs to be synchronised try dropping down to first gear without doing it! it is one of those 'masonic handshake' driving techniques that will always give you an advantage over someone not doing it it just keeps the car smooth whilst braking, and then helps you make a smooth, clean transition to full throttle, without the car dancing about, and means the engine is on cam ready to pull you through the corner in a nutshell, it makes you quicker that's why in-car footage of rally drivers often shows their feet dancing across all three pedals |

very true gavman. too give you guys an idea of how effective double declutch is, for example if you wanted it would be possible to be doing 80 mph in 4th and by the above method and a very heavy rev in between you could select 2nd with no crunching whatsoever. now i know the box would blow up if you let the clutch out, but if you tried the same thing but this time just pressed the clutch once and then tried to select 2nd you would hear the most almighty grinding noise ever. thats the principle reason for the above. you bring the next gear down upto the correct revs so that when you release the clutch the revs are already at the right speed..bernie
