Luckily the AE86 is an Old Skool car... I've already built a carbon fibre face planted carefully with black clear face defi's, including a large tachometer with shift light in the centre... As a 1996 classic - it wouldn't look right with a cluster this modern..!

Dino, you may be interested to learn I bought an AE92 today with 55,000km for next to nothing... The engine's going to be coming out and rebuilt with Toda race components, etc. to make around 200 bhp. Then it will be transplanted into the AE86 complete with throttle bodies and will finally be ready to drive....I will be replacing the interior in full and kitting it out nicely. I don't like stripped out cars for my own use. The interior in an AE86 is very light anyways.

So I'll lend it to you, so you can do a feature on it for some mags - and probably get as hooked on AE86's as I am!!!

You need to get one, so we can go drifting on weekends. You know you want to!!!

AE86's make me giggle

In 2 words "Raw Fun" is what an AE86 is all about.
Lightweight rear end with live rear axle and shimmed 2 way diff means plenty of sideways action.

It's a car that makes you want to misbehave....

and you will misbehave!

BTW Dino, just a snippet of info, getting back on the subject of this thread.

I remember looking at those throttle bodies used in the Scoot 4 rotor when Koseki was doing some work on the engine.
They are made from a one piece alloy billet with a carbon flat slide sandwiched between that opens each throttle simultaneously.
The carbon box houses a foam filter. Interesting to hear he's going to upgrade to FCov V Pro ECU's - as they're 32 BIT instead of the Apexi FC's 16 BIT.... I guess he needs the faster fuel management speed.

Interesting. Didn't see the throttle bodies as it's all covered by the carbon air box. He is actualy binning the box he has now and making another one which will feed from the bonnet venting to allow cooler air to be sucked in by the engine. Little bit of fine tuning I guess.

There's a chance he'll let us film the car on a top speed Wangan run sometime...to put into a future DVD. He seemed pleased with the 10 minute feature we did on Scoot for FE&E, judging by an enthusiastic phone call I got from him after seeing the film.

May not be the fastest - but inside tunnels, this has got to be one of the sweetest sounding cars of all!

Did he speak with you in English? His English is pretty good, but as always, these guys are a bit shy of talking anything other than the Japanese they're most comfortable with!

Yep we spoke in english half the time. He speaks very well and uses very technical terms which shows he's been in the business for years. That car at full blast in a tunnel would be very cool! Is it a jet-figher, is it a bike...no its a rotary LOL

It was great to see it in your film, but next time turn off the backing music so we can hear it in all it's glory!

Yep. Totally agree. Less music and more engine concerto

How's the consumption of the fuel?

My car is/was doing 1:5 (ltr/km)...

I blew the engine in 1992...that hurt...
Yeah, it was about time @140.000 km's...
I'm thinking of fixing it when I have time (and money).
In fact, I wan't to restore the whole drivingmechanism.
When I saw the Scoot RX-7, my blood began to boil again!
It's such a nice piece of machinery!

Wow, that's exeptional!
Most 12A's do 100.000 km's.
It mostly depends on the lubricationsystem that injects oil into the carburator for the sealing and lubrication of the rotor's seals.
I also want to take off the "afterburner system" to get a better airflow and therefor better heatdisposal.
The airpump for the AB at the "crankshaft" also consumes power: so a win-win situation.
When rebuilding a rotaryengine it's better to use used housings (within spec's) because of the thermal tension that is mostly gone.
At least, that's what i heard.
Tips are more than welcome!
