I bought an essential hicas breaker, basically a solid metal bar that replaces the steering rack, bought it from grenline, but seen Rising Sun selling them for near enough the same price!

I have just made my own, it's away at the platers at the moment, should be back this coming week. I'll take a couple of pics and post them up. Should be easy to duplicate. It gets rid of the WHOLE of the heavy rack assembly, only re-using the adjustable arms for tracking purposes. Saves a good few kilos.

Wow, that locking bar looks good, nice job. Pretty much the same as the one I bought, but I probably paid a lot more for mine.

Re. the last pic, (rear rack.jpg), you do realise that you didn't need to remove the whole of the rear subframe to fit it though.

It was taken months ago, I was doing a complete wishbone and diff swap and welding up some mounts to make them solid, I just dropped out the subframe in the pic and put back the one I'd "made earlier" Cheers.

It doesn't.... That's the reason people fit them

I assumed it was for the better

Try again... How is the handling changed then?

I haven't had time to work out if it's viable to make these to sell, to be honest. I don't even know how much the commercially made ones cost. Mine is better though, without even seeing a commercial pne, as I made it for myself and a few pals, with no regard to time or cutting costs. Seamless CDS tube, not ERW crap. Brackets milled from solid, all TIG welded, with end bobbins with rack boot grooves machined in. Bright zinc plated then gold passivated, for durability. More pics up at:

HERE

Let me know how much the commercial ones are and I'll see if it's worth making a small batch.

The handling change is pretty definite. You loose any "wobbles" many HICAS systems seem to inflict when cruising around 60 MPH, and on track or fast road usage the handling is more predicatble with less understeer. I just removed the whole HICAS ECU. Weight saving is a bonus too, of course.

Keep the HICAS, it adds to the experience of owning such a classic skyline, wich the R32 GTR is
