Grinding clutch

I know there's been a lot of posts on clutch noise, but I haven't come across one that details the same symptoms as mine.

The clutch seems to work fine, with the exception of when I pull away. Then it grinds and rattles as it engages, or sometimes just squeals. Once it's engaged the noise stops.

I've got no idea what clutch is in there at the mo' (although I'll be checking it out).

From a bit of research, it looks like the input shaft bearing is the likely culprit (unless it's just a noisy fecker by design ). There's no noise from the clutch when I'm driving and I haven't noticed any clutch slip.

Does this sound about right? Although there's no slip, the bite point is way too high for my liking, so I need to see if I can adjust it somehow. Without any slippage I'm guessing it's unlikely to need replacing just yet...

Cheers,

Iain

I had exactly the same thing on my R33 GTR. It was the input shaft bearing had gone oval, Hiteq in Wigan sorted it for about £400 (inc. new clutch). Would grind like a bastard at biting point and got worse if you hold it on the bite point for any length of time. I would reccomend changing the clutch too (definitely change the release bearing) as it wont like the whole drivetrain moving around.

Completely silent when it was fixed...

Best of luck.
